CraigK
I am using the latest Affinity Designer and I am having issues with the Boolean Subtract function. I have a blue rectangle curve at the bottom of my layer stack and fifty white star curves above it. I am trying to subtract the stars from the blue rectangle. When I do the subtract function, the white stars disappear, but show that they are still there, but now part of the blue triangle and have not been cut out. How can I cut these stars out of that blue triangle? Thanks. Craig
lepr
Select the result of the Subtract. Look in the Layer > Fill Mode submenu. If Winding is ticked, click on Alternate. If that doesn't solve the problem, please attach the Affinity document file in its state prior to attempting the Subtract. CraigK
h_d
Unless you have a particular reason to use Boolean subtraction, an alternative might be to group the stars and clip them to the rectangle: Screen Recording 2020-10-30 at 19.47.38.mov Cheers, H CraigK 1 Quote Affinity Photo 2.5.3, Affinity Designer 2.5.3, Affinity Publisher 2.5.3, Mac OSX 14.5, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel. h_d
Or if you are sold on a Boolean subtract, select all the stars, choose Layer-Geometry-Merge Curves (to create a single curve comprising all the stars), then select the blue rectangle as well and then try subtracting: Screen Recording 2020-10-30 at 20.02.36.mov Cheers, H CraigK 1 Quote Affinity Photo 2.5.3, Affinity Designer 2.5.3, Affinity Publisher 2.5.3, Mac OSX 14.5, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel. firstdefence
As long as the rectangle is below all the stars they should subtract. Another option is to select all the stars, then Layer > Geometry > Merges curves Quote iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... CraigK
Thanks firstdefence and h_d , but I tried those methods without success. I need these stars to show transparent through the blue rectangle. It's for a garment print file and I need the white to be transparent as the white will not print on a white shirt. anon2's answer provided the solution. Many thanks. Still don't know why the subtract doesn't work like it should though. Many thanks everyone. Craig

h_d
If you start with a transparent background and white stars then my second suggestion should work: Quote Affinity Photo 2.5.3, Affinity Designer 2.5.3, Affinity Publisher 2.5.3, Mac OSX 14.5, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel.
