Are Templates available? (Split)

Recommended Posts

I paid $50 for Affinity Publisher today and after I downloaded and started playing with it it for 5 minutes I realized it didn't have any TEMPLETS !

WHAT?? Who heard of a desktop publishing software that dosen't have templets? Every low-end desktop publishing software I have ever owned

has templets and also clip art. Puiblisher also dosen't have CLIP ART.

My old version of Microsoft Publisher has bookoos of templets so does The Print Shop and Serif Page Plus 9. What a crock!!

The stock photo app also does not work so I can't get stock photos. The Tutorial does not work. The support button dosen't work.

WHAT A RIP-OFF!!

Hahahahaha.   Sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but I really can't tell if you are trolling or not.  Despite its present shortcomings, Affinity Publisher's ambition is really not to replace $10 shovelware from the local Office Depot or Staples store.  They (claim to) aim at professional pre-press layout where document/book design is a significant part of the process.  Nobody uses a template to to make a book, because every book design is different.  (And volumes 1-24 of Genre Fiction by House Author, all laid out the same, that's a deliberate choice and the series book design was unique.)

And clip art?  Clip art?  This is not the early 1980's when software came on floppies, nor the 1990's when it came on multiple CDs.  Today you can find more clip art, free or paid, on the Internet than anyone could possibly cram into an application product package.  If you want to complain, complain that AffPub didn't come with a larger variety of built-in links to large Internet stock art sites, but for crying out loud don't complain that it didn't come with polka-dot kittens, plaid teddy bears, and anthropomorphic numbers and letters.

Hi @Hootie, welcome to the Affinity forum.

I will not touch too much on the templates and clipart points you raised as it has already been covered, however I can add that we are looking to make templates available for Affinity Publisher in the future.

If however you find that the following..

...has not improved, please email affinity@serif.com and we can see if we can figure out just why that may be the case for you.

Any spelling or grammatical errors found in the above post are deliberate and included to boost the self-esteem of those who spot them.

The download you sold me was evidently corrupted.

Unless you’ve already made up your mind that you want a refund, try downloading it again.

Several things on it don't work!

Please name a few.

How do I get a refund?

If you purchased it via the Affinity Store within the past 14 days, go here: https://store.serif.com/help/#returns

stock apps not connecting

If you mean that you can’t download stock images from Pixabay, etc, check your firewall settings to make sure that the app’s access to the remote site(s) is not being blocked.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just bought Affinity and I'm pretty excited to see what I can do with it. I'm an old school desktop publishing fan from ye-olden times of using a Mac II, and I remember when Adobe products were desktop applications, not cloud services. So far, I like the idea of keeping my data local and having professional grade desktop publishing capabilities.

Not to echo some of the more trollish comments above, but I could use a few templates of different example documents. I don't intend to use the templates as-is, but I am doing work with highly complex page layouts and I find that one of the best ways for me to go through a learning curve with a new application is to take apart and put back together some existing project. I do it with Unity and Unreal when I am trying to figure out how to do something I've never done before, I do it with Draw.io, I did it with Latex, and I do it with open source projects. I find a "hello world" or sample project and dissect it. I could use something like that using complex page layouts in Affinity, just to get started. I'm sure I'll get through my learning curve, but things like that are helpful for brand new users.

Thanks!

-JB
