The background in that example may look complex but it’s actually just shades of grey. And because it’s a ‘one click solution’ there’s no possibility of retaining the shadow at the man’s feet.

Former times PSE versions had a tool called the magic extractor, which operated in a similar fashion (though used two brushes instead).
