I am also a newbie although I have used Adobe photoshop for years without a problem with text.

I want to print one line of text in white on a coloured sheet and have selected Lucida Bright at 26pt and with the white colour font.

Whenever it prints out it is colourless with a thin black edge to define the letter.  What could I have done to make this happen?

Most home (i.e. consumer-grade) printers don’t have an option for printing in white. If that’s what you’re trying to do, you’ll need to get your work printed by a commercial printer unless you can find a white ribbon, inkjet or toner cartridge to use with your own printing device.

But have you used it with white text on colored paper, with the same printer you're trying to use now? If so, what printing options did you use with Photoshop?
