Hi @ricpdx,

Welcome to the forums.

What web browser are you using? Judging by the error message it's something that's not been updated since 2008.

Howdy. My default browser if Firefox. It's the current version:80.0 (64-bit)

Although I'm not sure there's any browser involved in this action -- this is Affinity Photo trying to open it's own help file in its own application window.

The Help files are HTML, and are being shown in a browser, though with a skin that doesn't make that obvious. They are shown in Internet Explorer, I think.

In your Preferences, at the bottom of the General page, what Language do you have specified? The error can be dependent on that.

Also, what version of Windows are you running?

Language is set to: "English (United States)"

Is there any way to force Affinity Photo to use a specific browser? As I mentioned, my default browser is Firefox, but it doesn't seem to be using that.

Thanks. I'm using English (US), too, and I don't have that problem. Perhaps it's your version of Windows?

No, there's no way to influence the browser that is used.

  1. The Help is available online at https://affinity.help if you want to look at it in Firefox.
  2. Alternatively, you can find the Help in your Affinity Photo install directory: image.png.bf105b1729ef6b1f89781e931355fd56.png
  3. Or perhaps if you simply click Yes it will all work after that (until you open the Help again).

Thanks, Walt. Running the help file directly from disk works flawlessly. I just created a shortcut to it on my desktop, so that resolves my issue.

To answer your other two suggestions...

  • I am running Windows 7. (Old, I know, but it is listed as being supported by Affinity Photo. I do plan to upgrade to Windows 10 here within about a month, so that will probably resolves this, if only because of the re-install.)
  • Clicking "Yes" on the script-error dialogs (there were five of them, in rapid succession) did bring up the help-window, but content was missing and the buttons (like "search") didn't work.

I'm all set for now. Thanks much for your help.

Yes, it's supported by the Affinity suite. But it's also possible that they've started using something that is not supported by IE on your level of Windows 7. This gives Gabe some good input to try to figure out what's going on :)

I believe it's your Internet Explorer version. Try launching it manually and see if you have any updates. If not, check what version it is.

Actually, it appears I completely removed IE, probably years ago. I prefer not to reinstall it, especially since I have a good workaround (opening the help file directly from disk), and since I plan to upgrade to win10 this month anyway.

I appreciate the help, though.
