The macro is as follows:

  1. Apply selection refinement
  2. Delete the selected area
  3. Unselect

I recorded the macro and photo did not crash when I did the actions manually. I'm at a loss for why it is not working in the macro. The macro specified is attached, but it will crash your application also.

The OP's macro crashes AP 1.8.3 (& also the latest Mac 1.8.4 beta) on my Mac as well. It looks like it is the Apply selection refinement step that does it.

The issue "Refine selection in macro crashes app" (REF: AFP-1576) has been fixed by the developers in build "2.2.0 Release".
This fix should be checkable in the current customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.

@Serif Info Bot, unsure what is meant by  "2.2.0 Release." AFAIK, 2.2.0 is the current customer release version & this bug still crashes my Mac running that version on Catalina.

Tested with the selections.afmacro from the first post here.
