What is the difference between affinity templates & affinity files?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I recently learned that there is something called affinity templates that can be reused for creation of similar files. But I'm pretty confused with it's application. Is there any big difference between an affinity template file and an affinity file other than being able to open the file as a separate document (with all pre saved design) every time and saving them as separate files (without the fear of saving over the old one)?

Is there any special feature for the aftemplate file, like say, can it be used for batch creation of files from an excel sheet using a script or something? I'll be glad to know the differences between a template and a normal file.

Thanks for explaining in advance!☺

As far as I know, the main difference between a file and a template is that a template can be added to the “File → New” dialog.
I don’t think there is any extra functionality in a template that you don’t get in a file.
This may not be true in the future if extra functionality is added so it’s worth checking the update logs in the relevant forum sections when you update the applications.

A template is a predetermined document with a consistently applied set of parameters, it’s just a quick way to create a basic document.

A blank document is not much different other than you can have anything you want in it, so you can add a text file, an image and save it as Joe Bloggs awesome template, all you have to do initially is remember to Save as
