photoshop1.0 Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Is there a way to create a "smart object" from two pixel-based layers in Photo? This option does not seem to exist by right-clicking layers in the layers panel. Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 The equivalent of a Smart Object in Photo is an embedded native Affinity file (that is, a .afphoto, .afdesign, or .afpub file). And no, you can't get that by right-clicking in the Layers panel. You could (though it is clearly more cumbersome): Select both layers Copy (or Cut) File > New from Clipboard File > Save As a new .afphoto file. Switch back to the original document, and (if you used Copy above) delete the two layers. File > Place the .afphoto file that you saved above. telemax and Basix 2 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. telemax Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Initially, each pixel layer in Affinity behaves like a Smart Object in Photoshop. It is not rasterized automatically when re-scaling. I really do hope that Serif will build in a right-click menu option for this capability, though. It only makes sense, given how useful it is in the competitor's app. telemax 1 Quote
telemax Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 You can work much faster, using symbols. You can edit layers without going to another document.
