Cetlas
Why is it if i create a rectangle of 350x700, and a elipse of 350x350, align them over each other horizontally and vertically, then use the Divide option, it creates a second duplicate circle and does nothing to the rectangle? I'd like to chop the lower portion off and have a rounded tip to the rectangle.
GarryP
Welcome to the forums. The Divide function splits the selected layers into segments where those layers intersect. If you just want to round the bottom of the rectangle off then you can either use the Corner Tool in Designer or use the corner options in the Context Toolbar of the Rectangle Tool in any of the Affinity applications. Cetlas
I'm not disagreeing with you, but they intersect and therefor should be split. Because they are both exactly 350 across, they intersect exactly. But for some reason, Affinity is using the action to create a duplicate of the ellipse, and leave the rectangle intact. If the ellipse is overlapping the rectangle is 351, it works as intended, but has two extra pixels on the side when i delete the bottom half. Alfred
What happens if you use a 350 × 350 square and align one of its edges with the centre of the circle? This here runs better, but not ideally. It creates 2 things, a single object with each of the four quarter pipe shapes, and the circle. Ideally, it should create 5 pieces. One for each quarter pipe shape, and one for the circle. I could then delete 2 of the corners and have the shape im going for, albeit much shorter lol

I was suggesting that you align the centre of the circle with an edge of the square. If you want to end up with a single shape and you don’t need any of the quarter pipe shapes on their own, you can add a half-height rectangle to the circle instead of dividing, adding and then discarding unwanted pieces that you get when starting with a square and a circle. Shouldnt they mathematically both be the same in this case? a 350x350 square and a 350x350 circle.
Alfred
Sorry, ignore the ‘half-height’ thing! I was forgetting that in your OP you said you were starting with a rectangle which is 700px high (i.e. twice the width) so my earlier suggestion of starting with a square should give you the desired result. GarryP
The Divide function seems to work differently depending on where the layers are. See my attached video for some odd results (original file also included). GarryP
It certainly seems a bit ‘buggy’ doesn’t it. I’ve created a bug report: P.S. Thanks to Cetlas for pointing this out in the first place. Old Bruce and Jowday
Cetlas
That is it exactly! And some bonus problems. Thanks guys for your listening and bringing it up to the devs. I'm continuing my project with the corners thing trick, but I won't lie its weird to have a "rectangular" object still on the board. Especially if i need to utilize pathfinders in the future, i wonder how it interacts with a cornered object. 🤔
