Hello everyone,

Software: Affinity Photo on WIndows

Problem: I'm trying to cut a part out of a layer by a simple rectangle mask. I need it to be a really precise, pixel-sharp edge. But no matter what I try, Affinity won't let me, it always softens at least one pixel at the edge.

I suppose this is really simple, and I'm really sorry if this question has been asked multiple times before, I just couldn't find an answer to it in the forums. Yet it's so basic, it's driving me nuts.

Thanks for any help or links to forum threads that I have missed!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Jonas. :)

Your screenshot shows softened pixels on both sides of the ‘marching ants’, which suggests that the rectangle is slightly rotated. Please don’t hesitate to post back if that isn’t the cause of the problem.

If you are using a Rectangle shape and then Layer > Rasterise to Mask you should ensure that the Rectangle is measured in whole pixels (width/height) and starts on whole pixels (x/y coordinates)

Switch to 6 decimal places in preferences then check the Rectangle's values in the Transform Panel
