The Grey Elf Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) Using the latest version 1.8.0.584 and the new features are much-needed, especially the ability to combine separate documents. Unfortunately, after an initial success in combining a bunch of docs into a single, larger one (I'm doing a multi-chapter book with graphical layout) I am finding that whenever I try to delete pages from, replace pages within, or add pages to the new book, the whole program freezes up as soon as the pages are deleted or added, jumps to using 100% of my computer's disk usage, and then stops responding altogether. Is this a bug in the new feature? Has anyone else seen this issue? Edited March 15, 2020 by The Grey Elf Quote
The Grey Elf Posted March 15, 2020 Author Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) To add to this, it seems to only happen when adding pages BEFORE page 1 or adding/deleting/replacing pages starting in the middle of the document. Adding pages at the end of the document creates no problems at all. Edited March 15, 2020 by The Grey Elf Quote
The Grey Elf Posted March 16, 2020 Author Posted March 16, 2020 Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? I've tried this on two different computers with the same results so it's definitely an issue in the software. Quote
Joachim_L Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 Have you tried the latest beta if the problem still exists? I had your problem once, but never occurred to me again with the latest retail version. I guess it was the document I wanted to add / delete. The Grey Elf Posted March 16, 2020 Author Posted March 16, 2020 It's happened to me with a number of different documents, and even adding/deleting blank pages, so it's not the specific file. I'm using the latest release version. Is there a newer version than 1.8.0584? I haven't gotten any update notices, and the one on my second computer I just downloaded yesterday, so it should be the latest? Quote
Joachim_L Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 1.8.0.584 is the latest retail (stable) version. But I suggested the latest beta you can find here: Jon P 1 Quote ------ Windows 10 | i5-8500 CPU | Intel UHD 630 Graphics | 32 GB RAM | Latest Retail and Beta versions of complete Affinity range installed
Staff Jon P Posted March 18, 2020 Staff Posted March 18, 2020 If you still get this in 1.8.2 let me know Quote Serif Europe Ltd. - www.serif.com
The Grey Elf Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 So far, 1.8.2 seems to be working properly. I'll keep you posted and thanks! Jon P 1 Quote
The Grey Elf Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 Ah, found a new bug. So now it lets me add pages into the document, but saving after doing so causes intermittent crashes, and trying to update table of contents after doing so seems to cause regular crashes (just updating causes intermittent crashes). The Grey Elf Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 There seems to be a workaround for the TOC issues. If I delete and regenerate the TOC instead of updating it, it doesn't seem to crash. Quote
Staff Jon P Posted March 20, 2020 Staff Posted March 20, 2020 Do you find this happens more on a specific file? Might be worth you uploading it here and I'll add some pages and update the ToC and see if I can reproduce that issue Quote Serif Europe Ltd. - www.serif.com
The Grey Elf Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 For copyright and privacy rasons, I can't upload the file, as it is a commercial product. Quote
Staff Jon P Posted March 20, 2020 Staff Posted March 20, 2020 Could you remove content from the file but keep it at a point where it demonstrates the issue? The above link is only viewable by Serif staff and will only be used internally, but if it's an issue related to a specific file you have then it will be a lot easier for us to look into with a file that demonstrates the issue.
