John Rostron Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 I have been placing images into pre-defined text boxes. I find that about once in four or five times, the image just disappears after placing. I place it , resize to fit and then it just vanishes. John Quote Windows 11, Affinity Photo 2.4.2 Designer 2.4.2 and Publisher 2.4.2 (mainly Photo). CPU: Intel Core i5 8500 @ 3.00GHz. I cannot see it in the Layers panel. (I did look but forgot to mention it). I doubt if the actual .afpub file will be much use, but will see what I can do. GarryP Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Some extra questions: * What do you mean by “pre-defined”? * Why are you placing images into “text boxes”? * How are you placing the images? * How are you resizing the images? John Rostron 1 Quote

I have been provided with a template (as a .pdf file) which I am oblged to use for my newsletter. 5 hours ago, GarryP said: Why are you placing images into “text boxes”? The template provides these text boxes into which we enter our copy. 5 hours ago, GarryP said: How are you placing the images? I select the image, using the move tool if necessary, then use the handles to resize. When there are fewer items for my newsletter than there are pre-defied text boxes, I am filling the empty boxes with an image. This consists of a tileable image, tiled to fit the space. Ideally, I would like to just fill the box with a tiled background image, but I cannot see any way of doing that. I am unfamiliar with how a PDF could contain a "text box", and what that would be like when you Open the PDF in an Affinity application. Also unsure why you'd want to put an image into one rather than text. Can you supply the PDF template? Also, one of the images that you'd like to tile into a box (and an indication of which box) might help. Local_Group Newsletter_Template_4 pages.pdf I removed all the text and blank images before adding my own. Looking at the Layers panel, it looks as if what I had assumed to be Text Boxes, were in fact Curves. Most of the copy is provided as word files. I copy the text from these, then paste into the TextBox/Curve, and resize. And here is the image I tried to insert. This is pasted into the (say) Story 7 box and resized to fit. As I said in my first message, it sometimes works OK, and sometimes does not. I have been producing another Newsletter using my own template/design and I have had similar problems with images vanishing. (In that case they certainly were Text Boxes, created by APub.) GarryP Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 I’ve created a basic template – attached, file and sample image – that might be easier for you to use. It’s probably not perfect but it should be okay - no guarantees though. I think I’ve managed to recreate all of the layout properly. You will need to change some text formatting in the Text Styles as I don’t have the necessary fonts. It was made with Publisher 1.8.2.619 (beta) but it can be opened in 1.8.0.x and should be usable in the next release. P.S. The PDF template you were supplied with looks like it is supposed to be altered inside Adobe Acrobat (or similar PDF software) without using Publisher. John Rostron Posted March 16, 2020 Author Posted March 16, 2020 Thanks @GarryP, I will give it a go. John Quote Windows 11, Affinity Photo 2.4.2 Designer 2.4.2 and Publisher 2.4.2 (mainly Photo). CPU: Intel Core i5 8500 @ 3.00GHz. RAM: 32.0GB DDR4 @ 1063MHz, Graphics: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
John Rostron Posted March 17, 2020 Author Posted March 17, 2020 Thanks @GarryP, I tried placing an image into one of your boxes and it placed with no problem. I do find it confusing that when I use the Explorer window to find the file to be placed, it usually only lists text or similar files. However, this is logical, given that the cursor is currently in a text box. I need to click outside a text for it to show me image files.
