My updates to Publisher and Designer keeps coming back as install failed.

The approach that often works to resolve this situation:

  1. Restart Windows; then
  2. Right-click on the installer .exe file and choose Run As Administrator.

If that doesn't do it for you, you can find the detailed install logs, which may provide information about a different problem than the usual one. To do that, press the Windows key and R, which will give you a Run dialog. In the box in that dialog, paste:
%Temp%\AffinitySetup

Press OK, and a File Explorer window will open. You'll see one or more directories listed. The newest one corresponds to your latest installation attempt. If you open it, you'll find 2 files. Setup.log and SetupUI.log, whose contents will help explain the problem. (I often find that opening SetupUI.log in a text editor and searching for "Error" will reveal the problem.)
