Azurite)mike Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Hi All, I have created a mask that I am fairly happy with of a fairly complicated scene but one that has fairly good contrast. However when I create a mask using that selection, the mask comes up with all sorts of translucencies. I want a simple inside the selection is solid white and outside is solid black, not varying translucency. I know this is Affinity trying to be smart however in this instance it is really not helping me! Is there any way to turn off the 'smart selection' (not edge selection, it is picking the edges well). I'm happy to upload the file if someone can show me how to! Quote
Dan C Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Hi Azurite)mike, Welcome to the forums It would certainly help to see a copy of your Affinity file, could you please upload this to the following link for me and let me know once this has been completed? What selection tool did you use to create your selection/mask please? Many thanks in advance! https://www.dropbox.com/request/nIEv6lyU7WZ5rqADXMsg Quote
Azurite)mike Posted February 25, 2020 Author Posted February 25, 2020 Here is the file if anyone can help remove that terrible blue! Silver.afphoto Quote
Azurite)mike Posted February 25, 2020 Author Posted February 25, 2020 I have tried the selection brush with refine, selecting blue only, selecting by colour selection with a moderate tolerance but they all result in translucent masks. I know it is something I am doing/not doing but I cannot find any tutorials that address this issue, all the tutorials make it look so easy which is why I am getting frustrated. Quote

Azurite)mike Posted February 26, 2020 Author Posted February 26, 2020 Easy when you know how. Thanks haakoo and carl123. Still the dark lines around the edges to remove but pretty sure I can do that. Again, much appreciated. Quote
Azurite)mike Posted February 26, 2020 Author Posted February 26, 2020 Upon downloading both the above files, neither actually suffices for a publication quality photo. Both include partial transparency of the the silver wires in places, edges are very jagged and not all the background is removed. The first one is missing quite a few silver wires, I think the select by sampled colour with quite tight tolerance may work but it will be a lot more than 20 clicks in order to get publish quality results. Thanks for the ideas and tips! Quote
