I have watched the video where the operator creates an HDR image of steps outside a large building. There are people walking up the steps and he uses clone to select them from one of his HDR images making up the group.

When he opens his Clone it produces a Source box that lists all the images making up the HDR compilation. My image Clone1

When I open Clone all I get in that box is the combined image and not its components. Dan has said it was because I need to use Layers but I have not created a Layer. My image Clone3

Can someone tell me what I should be doing please? (I am posting here to releave Dan from my barrage of 'newbie' queries - aren't I kind??)

The Sources panel is only populated when certain tools Clone/Healing Tools) are selected after using the New HDR Merge feature. Once you switch to another tool, the Sources panel will empty as that particular tool doesn't use source images in anyway. The overall combined image is the Pixel layer on the Layers panel.

The images that you're using, I assume you took them with creating an HDR image in mind so you used exposure bracketing on your camera?

Lee,

It seems, according to Dan, there is a bug in displaying the source images of the HDR that is compiled.

I am chatting via email.

I will report back with a solution or confirmation it currently does not work.

Thanks

Tony

If it's on, try unticking "Tone map HDR image" when doing the initial HDR Merge.

If I have it on I don't get the sources file list

I've managed to get into a state where the three original images and the HDR combined one are listed in the Source Panel.

When I use Clone to select one it does not copy the image with the brush to the main edited image.

I have watched:-

Can someone tell me what step the instructor has taken to make the brush paint the copied image, please.

Whilst waiting for a reply from you more experienced folk I have done some more experimenting.

It seems that cloning from the source panel is possible until you start altering any of the settings such as brightness and saturation.

Pick the area that needs a ghost removing, clone it from the Source panel and then AND ONLY THEN sort out your tonality.

What I can't find now is the Local Contrast and Detail Refinement I had in Develop Persona - but I will keep looking.

EDIT. OK cracked it. You do the clone first and then move back into the Develop Persona tab and do the necessary enhancements.

I reckon this is the solution but bear in mind I have only had Affinity for about four days. Words of wisdom from you folk are still the breath of life to me.
