nullpointer
I'm new to Affinity Designer and so far my experience has been exceptionally good! There is however one technique that has me stumped. I need to be able to cut one SVG (placed) shape from another SVG (placed) shape. Suggestions? firstdefence
Open both SVG files and copy and paste one to the other, they will both be curves and you can boolean subtract them. Or create a new document and copy and paste each SVG into the new document then boolean subtract. nullpointer
Thank you I appreciate it! Does this operation apply to text? If I have text and need to subtract a placed SVG shape from it, is the procedure the same?
firstdefence
You would have to convert the text to curves first, and copy/paste the SVG into that document. Maybe if you can give an example of what you are doing we can give you other ideas. nullpointer
I have a large black text and I'm placing an SVG of a flower over the text with the intent of being able to subtract the SVG of the flower from the text.
gdenby
Hi, nullpointer, After converting the text to curves, add the text curves to make 1 text like figure. Subtact the flower shape from that Quote iMac 27" Retina, c. 2015: OS X 10.11.5: 3.3 GHz I c-5: 32 Gb, AMD Radeon R9 M290 2048 Mb iPad 12.9" Retina, iOS 10, 512 Gb, Apple pencil Huion WH1409 tablet

No, tho' it is a basic subtract operation. S'pose theres something relevant out there. I mentioned adding the text curves together so that the flower shape would not need to be subtracted over and over for each character. Just the whole mass at once. When you convert a word to text it creates a group of the letters, just expand the group, select the letter curves and boolean/geometry: Add them together.
