Brian Lee Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 Hello, I've had the repeated problem that Affinity Designer crasheswhen I am trying to save work done to an open document. If I apply Save As it just crashes out and whilst it's 'recover lost file' on repoen is good, it sometimes loses some work performed most recently. I have found one work around which is to give the file another name on exit, such as Image 2, Image 3 etc. However this has been happening for some time, I'm using a Mac with IOS Mojave. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted January 7, 2020 Staff Posted January 7, 2020 Hi @Brian Lee, Welcome to the forums Where do you try to save? local drive? Network drive? Cloud drive? Can you attach a screen recording of your workflow? Quote
Brian Lee Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 Hi Gabe Just saving into a folder on the desktop, I keep active projects there, so it's Save As, then it asks if I wasnt to 'Replace', it crashes at this point. It's done it with a number of differnt image files, I don't have screen recording, I'm afraid. If I change the name it doesn't do it it seems to be something to do with replacing the file function? PS love all the affinity software, I teach Graphic Communication and am recommending all three to may students. Quote

I have to ask. Why are you doing a Save As (and therefore overwriting the file (which you have open)) instead of simply Save(ing) the file? Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Brian Lee Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 Hi There Sorry its a habit I have gotten into as it gives me options to change file name or location, or overwrite my original, but in other programs it usually doesn't crash the app. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted January 8, 2020 Staff Posted January 8, 2020 I cannot replicate this I'm afraid. I'm wondering if it's something specific you have in those files... Can you replicate it with a basic new document and 1 shape? Quote
Brian Lee Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 Hi I've attached one of the working versions of the file below, and tried to save it, via "Save As' and as you can see by other image attached it crashed out again. I started numbering the files in order to avoid this final working version was 9, which seemed to not have the same problem, ie I could save that one whilst overwriting the original. Thanks Parmo_Graphic_6_.afdesign Quote
Staff Gabe Posted January 8, 2020 Staff Posted January 8, 2020 Still no crash. If you purchased from the Mac App Store could you try these steps please: Go to Macintosh HD\Users\username\Library\Containers\ rename the 'com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner' folder to 'com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner.old' Start Designer This will have reset all of your settings so please note all of your assets, brushes, etc will not be there. Currently these are stored in the renamed folder so we can look at getting them back if this works for you. If it does not crash?, could you zip up and attach a copy of the 'com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner.old' folder please?
