bt1138 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Photo crashes every time I try to do a pano or merge with 16-bit tif files. These are 4000x6000, around 120mb each. Crashes every time, actually, the program freezes solid right after selecting the tiff files and hitting the open button that would load them into Photo. If I take the same files and convert them to 8-bit, it loads. At 8-bits these are around 35mb in size each. I uninstalled Photo, cleansed the registry and did a full new install, v.1.7.3.481. No difference. I have 16gb of RAM. Using Windows 10 always running the latest patches from Microsoft. No unusual hardware. Is this normal, or is this a bug? I can post the files but it seems to happen with any set of 16-bt tif files. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted December 16, 2019 Staff Posted December 16, 2019 Hi @bt1138 Welcome to the forums. How many files do you load at once? Quote
bt1138 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 Usually 3. But it will still crash when loading just 2 files. Quote
bt1138 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 I checked on a 2nd windows PC and the crashing occurs the same way on the 2nd PC. So the issue is not specific to a single machine. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted December 17, 2019 Staff Posted December 17, 2019 Hmm... can you please upload your sample files so we can give it a go? https://www.dropbox.com/request/sdxjvHuF2NkUrLc33CkQ Quote
bt1138 Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 I just dropped 2 tiffs for you. thx Quote
Staff Gabe Posted December 18, 2019 Staff Posted December 18, 2019 No issues at all on my end. Can you please try your workflow in our latest beta? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/34-photo-beta-on-windows/ Quote
bt1138 Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 Same bahavior with the Beta software, freezes. I tried running in Safe Mode and it also crashed. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted December 19, 2019 Staff Posted December 19, 2019 Can you please attach a screen recording of this in action, just in case we're missing something? Is it actually crashing or freezing(not-responding)? Quote
bt1138 Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 see attached. cpu goes to 0% activity and it freezes. After that, I am clicking on various buttons and menus, no response. You can see that the thumbnails previews never load into the merge dialog box before it freezes. aff-01.mp4 Quote
bt1138 Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 And also here's a video of a panorama freeze. The first time is with 8-bit files, they previews load into the dialog box and it will work fine going forward if i don't cancel it out. The second time with the same files at 16-bit it freezes without loading the thumbnail previews, just as with HDR marge. -->And it freezes the same way for Focus Merge and for Stack with 16-bit files and it loads fine with 8-bit, which I just checked for the first time a minute ago. panorama crash.mp4 Quote
bt1138 Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 And my graphics "card", just standard intel on-board graphics . Quote
Staff Gabe Posted December 20, 2019 Staff Posted December 20, 2019 Can you please zip your "1.0" folder from %AppData%\Affinity\Photo and upload it on that dropbox link? Can you also upload a list with all your installed programs? Quote
bt1138 Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 Just dropped it in. --->And so I went ahead and uinstalled Sagethumbs. And that seems to have cleared up the problem. Thanks for looking at this. Quote
