patw
Hi all, I'm a new user, and really exited about playing with the features. One problem I am constantly trying to solve is how to copy over text from a raster format, and tracing over it, or drawing new text with the pen tool. But a problem I have is that my text always seems amateurish, because I have problems constraining the height of the text so that each line of text is capped in height and aligned with the neighbors. Is there some kind of grid or snap feature I can use to force constraining (like between two rule lines or grids)? Couldn't find anything on this, but not sure of the terminology. Also, if there are any suggestions on a tool that can trace over raster files and create fonts, that would be great. Or somehow create true type from affinity hand drawn text. I have the iFontMaker app, and like it, but it does not have any tracing feature that I am aware of. Edited November 2, 2019 by patw

You can rough it out with the pen tool and switch to Node tool to zoom in and fine tune the shapes. See rough example of tracing some placed graphic text using two horizontal guide lines. Zuki
The issue of tracing bitmap images has been brought up many times, but AD doesn't have an auto-tracing function yet. I too miss the auto-tracing tools in Illustrator since I abandoned it for AD. However, be of good cheer, I have been Using "Inkscape" for professional work in both design and stock ever since. It's a roundabout way of doing it but when you develop your system of going about it you achieve any tracing endeavor. And it's FREE!
