  1. Hi Affinity team!

I have raised this before during the Photo beta run, but the following problem still annoys the crap out of me:

When I develop a RAW image through Affinity, I want the exported file to retain the EXACT same exif-information! It's not that hard, really. Right now I have to go through hundreds of .jpg files and change the date manually after the fact, because Affinity Photo wrote the timestamp of the export into the exif. This. Is. Awful!

When I open a .jpg file, make changes and just save it again as a .jpg file, the original exif-info is rewritten to it. Why can't you do this for RAW files exported as .jpg as well? It's such a simple thing!

On another note: When editing .jpg and saving back to .jpg, some exif information gets crippled.. In my case the lens-information is missing (It should be AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G). Just another annoyance with your handling of exif-information.

I'm really sorry about the rant, but it's so so frustrating using a great software like yours and then having to deal with these show-stopping-kind of problems.

    Regards

    Chris

  2. Hi,

I love AP, but the cropping still needs some work:

Whenever I crop an image, I come across the fact that the crop tool in Photoshop is somewhat better than the one in AffinityPhoto. I love the way one can see the whole image whenever clicking on the crop tool. I know that AP's crop tool is non-destructive and it would be great to be able to see the "cropped" part of an image.

Also, when straightening a photo (either by rotating or by using the "straighten" button and drawing a line), it would be very helpful, if AP resized the crop automatically, resulting in no blank space inside the crop. I think, Photoshop does it.

And again, it would be great, if the default mode for cropping was "original ratio". Or at least make AP remember that setting!

To sum up: Although I hate to compare AP to Photoshop, I think that cropping is an area that needs work and Photoshop shows, how it can and should be done!

    Cheers,

    Chris

  3. Hi guys,

I'm experiencing some weird and annoying music playback behavior when developing RAW images in Affinity Photo. When I'm panning around the image or zooming in, my iTunes playback stops/stutters. I checked activity monitor, the CPU usage seems to be no more than 50 %. I'm on the El Capitan GM using the latest AP and iTunes versions.

Probably the problem lies with Apple and iTunes (already filed a bug report), I am just curious if anyone else is experiencing something similar.

    MacBook Pro 13", Mid-2014

    Cheers

  4. Hi Affinity-Team,

I just created a pretty small document (800x1200 px) with 3 embedded .jpg files and after using the export menu (not the export persona), Affinity uses up 360 % of my CPU and doesn't respond! After a few minutes, it executes the clicks I made, but hangs again. It seems to have to do with the png export, since that is the default export format, maybe the calculation of the file size?

I then chose to export as a jpg and Affinity Photo again takes a longer time than expected and again the fans of my 13" MacBook Pro began spinning up. The export worked but there seems to be a very big bug with your export!

If it is of any help, I can send you the Affinity document.

    Regards,

    Chris

PS: I'm on OS X 10.11 Public Beta 6 (15A243d) using the latest Affinity Photo Beta.

  5. Hi,

I'd like to request a setting, maybe general or in the export dialogue. When I edit a photo, RAW or jpg, and I export it as a jpg, I most of the time want it to include the original date and time when I took the picture. Affinity Photo unfortunately writes the date and time of export into the EXIF information. A setting to change this would be most welcome!

Or maybe I've just overlooked something?

    Regards,

    Chris

  6. I also have to say I like the old icons better... I think they have a "welcoming" feel to them and to me, it is nice to see the purpose of an app represented in its logo.

Also, the new logos don't really fit Apple's latest "Icon" style: Just look at Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Final Cut Pro X, Logic X, Motion 5 and all the stock apps. They all have something in their icon that represent their purpose. Now, I have to say, the current icons have a little bit "too much" going on with all the folding, shadows, etc. Just compare Designer's pens to Pages'. But overall, I think the current icons fit in better.

  7. Exif information is missing in jpgs just using the Export functionality as well. Perhaps both conditions (File -> Export and Export Persona) utilize the same software. I don't know.

Some exif information is also still missing in tiffs when exported from raw images.

Really? That's weird. For me EXIF information persists using File -> Export and selecting "jpg Highest Quality" ! Also the color is right using this method

  8. Great news!

I guess you haven't yet been able to address issues with the export persona, as some problems persist:

EXIF information in jpg files is missing when using the export persona

Color of the exported image is "flat" when the ICC profile is set to "use document profile" -> one has to select sRGB manually to make it work (also in export persona)

Oh and the thumbnails are gone again (as is quick look functionality)

But you probably already know about these quirks ;)

    Good job so far!
