  1. Now that's really strange, Peter. Since the others who use the C1-AP combo and who have posted here do not see any difference, the logical conclusion is that the root cause must lie somewhere in your system/workflow. Have you followed up on the suggestion of using a 30-day trial version of CaptureOne 10? Out of interest, what camera are you using?
  2. Peter, Pedro may have a point with the comment on colour profiles; make sure your monitor, AP (set in Preferences), and C1's "Edit with" drop down are all set to the same one.
  3. @pkr, this seems strange. Like Mike and Pedro, I use AP as an external editor, calling it from C1 (especially for cloning which is possible the weakest area of Capture One) and have never experienced any brightness differences either with NEF files (the most usual starting point for me) or jpegs. Out of interest, why don't you clean up the dust with the C1 tool - I find it works very well?
  4. Don't know but it's certainly not at all expected ... Have you tried any debugging such as saving the card to a file and trying "Open with" for any of the images?
  5. Anon, I made a short screen capture movie of a simple edit to an image that is stored in C1 and edited in AP using the method described. You can see it in dropbox using this link. There is no audio (to keep file size down) but as you can see it worked smoothly. The only slight issue that I can see is the one mentioned in an earlier post - the edited file has been returned to a position at the end of the originating folder and not next to the source image.
  6. Anonymoustache and Mike There's something odd here ... If you are indeed using the workflow I posted then the edited file will be returned to C1 in the same format that it was sent (if you sent a jpeg you will get a jpeg back, if a tif then a tif etc) unless there is a bug in your system, or, as Mike posted, you are using <Open with> with rather than <Edit with>. If you use <Open with> the edited file will be in .afphoto format and would need the extra step of exporting as a jpeg or tif to be read in C1. The only other thing I can think of is that sometimes when the edited file is returned to C1 it sits next to the original but sometimes it is "parked" as the last image in the originating folder. In the latter case it will appear that nothing has happened because your screen is showing the sent image. It is best to clone the existing variant within C1 and apply the AP editing to the cloned variant.
  7. I don't understand the problem here; I take it that when you say "Saving back to Capture One" you are talking about a round trip in which the original image is located in C1 and AP is called as an external editor? If so, this workflow has worked without any problems for me for several years; In C1, with image open, File > Edit with > Affinity Photo (defined as an option and selected from the drop down). This will open the image in AP. Complete your editing then CMD S and the edited photo is returned to C1 as a variant of the exported image. Done!
  8. Just curious about what is meant by "Gradient mask" here and how people use the AP version. There is a gradient mask tool in CaptureOne that I use a lot. It draws a gradient (obviously  ) by selecting a start point and then dragging to the desired end point. You can then apply any of the C1 editing tools to that segment of your image, I don't see that flexibility in the AP version (and yes, I will be 0.001% amazed if the issue is my understanding rather than the capability of the tool in AP).
  9. @R C-R Actually this is a Mac site (Affinity Photo on Mac Beta). It is AP that is now not Mac only, but there is a separate forum for the Windows version. I suppose if we go up a level, you would be correct that Affinity Beta Support in itself is not platform specific. However, there would not be much point in posting advice that involved the possible use of Apple Photos on the other Forum ;) .
  10. Ash, there are just two things that matter here: Firstly at present AP is an editing program (and a very, very good one) but does not have a library/Digital Asset Manager function; secondly there are many other programs that do work (and work well) in regard to the library function and can call AP as an external editor. Bottom line is if you have Apple Photos or any version of Lightroom (as examples - I don't use either of these, but this is a Mac site and if you have a Mac you have Photos free of charge and it seems you may have an older non-subscription version of LR) then go ahead and use that as your DAM and call AP for editing.
  11. That only applies to large enterprise installations. Single/small business users are another matter altogether. And my beef as a single user is the current price up/value for money down trend.
  12. Mike (and fde 101 and Traveling Man and lots of others ...) see post #17 above from vague-logic. That's the workflow that I use (as does at least one other significant contributor here) and it works very well indeed. Why not download the free trial and give it a run? The DAM is very flexible; it will work with referenced or managed libraries and can structure your files in a multi-layer folder system and/or by keywords. I was an early moaner about the lack of a DAM, but the ease of calling AP as external editor from CaptureOne means I have lost interest in that aspect. As an aside, I think that the prioritisation mentioned by Andy in post #19 makes a lot of sense. If I were to change anything in my personal set-up in the mid-term future it would be to move to a Windows platform as Apple seemingly relentlessly and blindly keep introducing new Macs that have fewer features of interest (no SD card reader, no magsafe power cord, 16GB max RAM on the latest MacBookPro) but a big jump in price. I'll take a serious look at the W version of AP when it is released.
  13. amazme1, what you say about LR being "the one exception" is not correct. Capture One Pro and ACDSee, to name but two, can do this (DAM + photo editor).
  14. Aha Callum - nice to see those DAM words here once more ... Don't suppose you'd care to say how much longer we have to wait for the real thing?
  15. Re Mike's post #130 and deva's #140, I suspect that the roadblock for most of the PS plugins will clear quite quickly once the mass-market version of AP is up and running, assuming that is, that having done the basics for their Windoze version the various plugin providers will be more inclined to release a Mac version. Mind you, I still don't understand why AP don't just do what others have done and release a "direct from Serif" version to sit alongside the MAS one.
  16. @Travelling Man There are many threads on this, but perhaps the best is Post 23 in this thread: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/4671-how-to-install-plug-ins/page-2 The specific sandbox issue is Apple's policy re IPC memory use.
  17. +10 on that, although to be fair the source of the plug-in problem is A-for-Apple, not A-for-Affinity. Having said that, I can't recall there ever being a satisfactory response to the suggestion that Serif do what many other companies do and offer two versions, one inside the MAS and one directly from Serif modified which has been modified to deal with the processing problem.
  18. Mike, I wasn't being all that serious, but if having a full suite of functional PS plugins turned out to be vital, there's always Bootcamp or Parallels.
  19. Presumably the Windoze version will fully support Photoshop plugins ...
  20. Yes, using 1.4.2 Beta 3. You can see what I'm trying here (I had the goalpost images for another reason, and thought a whimsical creation with the moon as the football would work - ignore the "skateboard rink swimming pool"). As mentioned, I am aware of a number of ways to do it, just surprised that New from Clipboard didn't work.
  21. Haven't been here for a while other than to read - thank you Team Affinity! However, here I am again with a problem. I tried something new to me today, selecting and copying part of an image from one file with the intention of pasting the selection directly into another one but going view "New from Clipboard". I've done the select and paste lots of times, but on this occasion getting the selection "right" for the desired new image needed it to be edited from how it is in the original. I tried to do this by copying the selection and then using "New from Clipboard" but got the endless spinning beachball. Any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong re making the New from Clipboard or should I edit the desired image some other way (such as editing the whole source image to make the target look the way I want it, save that under a different name, and select and copy from there). Bill
  22. csp, I agree with you but perhaps the Affinity Team care (at least a little).
  23. My first thoughts were why would anyone want to write something like that on a site like that? Magnus_vs's post here says pretty well all that needs to be said. The OP really seems like a rant from someone with a PS tee-shirt and tattoo and is a big pat on the back for AP's capabilities. The list of "here's what's wrong" is pretty short and even shorter when corrected.
