  1. My tables of shortcut keys here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/37423-affinity-photo-shortcut-key-full-list/?p=185658
  2. So I went through all the menus, Preference shortcuts, help system and some Windows stuff and built the attached longlists of shortcut keys in all personas. One file is sorted by shortcut key and the other by persona (so you can find it in Edit/Preferences, Shortcut keys). I produced this via a spreadsheet, but the Affinity forum doesn't like such documents being uploaded. If you want a copy of this original, email me on dmstraker at syque dot com. 3. Thanks, folks. Good to hear you like my notes. I know that writing helps fix things in my brain (part of my learning style), so other notes may follow. I also write for a living these days (http://changingminds.org).
  4. Just adding a note here that I've uploaded my notes on all the tutorials as of 14 Mar 17. Details and .pdf in the post below: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/37281-notes-on-in-house-affinity-photo-video-tutorials/
  5. Phew. I've just ploughed through the full set of in-house AP video tutorials, done by the most excellent James Ritson. To help me learn and provide a reference, I made personal notes along the way. Here they are, complete with links to each video, in case they may be of help for you. No guarantees and all that. Update 25 Mar 17: File with notes on change up to 23 March added. Update 30 Mar 17: File with notes on change up to 29 March added. 170314 Affinity Photo Video Notes.pdf 170325 Affinity Photo Video Notes.pdf 170329 Affinity Photo Video Notes V3.pdf
  6. I did a Select/Select Sampled Colour. Then selected Model: Intensity. Then clicked in image. It looks like I'm doing a luminosity selection. I can even adjust the width with Tolerance. Underlying question I'm not sure about: Is Intensity the same as Luminosity? If it is different, then this would still seem to be a way of doing a luminosity selection if a b/w conversion was temporarily inserted beforehand.
  7. In ACR the first panel offering includes whites, blacks, shadows and highlights. In AP there is blackpoint, shadows and highlights but no whitepoint. I'm wondering why not but guessing there is reason for this. Dave
  8. In ACR, I got used to whites/blacks, which are useful for tweaking the histogram. In AP there's blackpoint but no obvious white correction. I'm working on the principle that you folks know what you are doing. What's the rationale for the change? Thanks -- Dave
  9. The presets in Tone Mapping are useful. It would be handy to have such presets other personas. Apart from being useful for saving and standard 'fixes', these would appeal to beginners and help ease them into the overall programme. Other programmes, notably On1, make use of presets everywhere. Yes, I know that with the complexities of layers it would be tricky in Photo persona, and that there are kind of presets available under the Adjustments panel, and also that macros may be used. But I'm sure you good folks might find a way to make this work.
  10. The history panel collects every step, which is great. However it can make it difficult to see where I added specific adjustments, etc. It would be brilliant if these could be made to stand out somehow, for example with different colours for different types of step. It's a bit like modern code editors - colouring functions, etc. makes them easier to find later. A variant on this could perhaps be done with outlining (maybe even mapping to level panel). Cheers! Dave
  11. When enlarging the canvas it would be nice to be able to specify the colour fill for area that appears around the image. One reason is that I use this to add colour borders to images and it would be handy if I could say 'make the border white' or grey, or black, etc. Thanks!
  12. Ooh. Thanks, Alfred! I should have spotted this -- I already have Ctrl-H added to hide marquee. Dave
  13. You can extract text from images with Acrobat, using OCR option. I've done this with scanned documents -- useful for in-document PDF searching. Other scanning/OCR software will probably do likewise. Then cut/paste text into Affinity as you like.
  14. Hi, I'm Dave Straker. Chair of local camera club (Abergavenny). Utterly delighted to find Affinity Photo. Been using CS6 for years. Refuse to pay Adobe tax for CC. Also irritated that now ACR doesn't accept RAW files from Sony RX100V. Have used On1, especially for its fast browse and latest RAW developer. It also integrates well with other software. But AP has so much more depth! Currenlty chewing through the huge list of videos. Many thanks for these! I'm also planning on developing an 'Anything but Photoshop' presentation to take around other camera clubs, in which AP will be the star.
  15. Very, very easy one! In photoshop you can click D and it sets the foreground/background colours to black and white. Useful if you've been painting in another colour and you want to do mask work. If you wanted to go an extra step, you could allow setting of a range of fg/bg colour pairs that can be selected/rotated.
  16. Thanks, Callum. Keep up the good work. In my time I've worked in both software and marketing. When I was cutting code I thought marketing folks were just people in suits who lived on expenses. When I worked in marketing I realized how difficult and time-consuming it is. You just have to keep on top of it every day, with detailed comms plans, owned updates, press relationships, and all sorts. Things like updating Wikipedia should be a named responsibility of a person who does it automatically. One way to help is to have checklists, so when you do a release, there is always a check that key marketing tasks have been completed (same checklist should of course also be used in planning and allocating responsibility). Best Dave
  17. I'm an old Photoshop user but have always been irritated by their monopolistic pricing, and I know many camera club people feel the same. So I'm putting together an 'Anything but Photoshop' talk/demonstration to take around clubs in South Wales and the borders, including ON1 Raw, Smart Photo Editor, PSP and of course Affinity Photo (my favourite). I'm chewing through the splendid videos at the moment. Any other resource ideas? Things to say?
  18. Hi Affinity. Brilliant product (AP). I'm now switching from Photoshop. I want you folks to succeed and you need to keep on top of your marketing. Wikipedia, for example, doesn't reference the PC version or the latest developments. Many people will use this to figure out if Affinity is worth pursuing. I've just looked at the Photography Show next month in the NEC. It's a major event and people like Adobe and all the camera manufacturers will be there. You should have a stand! And doing presentations. (yes, it's expensive, but the marketing you'd get would be invaluable). Keep up the good work. Dave (in Wales)
