There isn't much of an update to give unfortunately. We've just shipped version 1.7 and now we're working out what should come next.

Despite what some of the posts in this thread have suggested, we do listen, and we do implement features and changes as suggested by our users. Designer was first released 5 years ago, and since then people have been receiving free features and bug fixes, many of which had been requested and debated on this forum ahead of time. We think that's pretty fair.

Yeah, right, since we are paying customers.

*looks at thread life* - Sure ok, I guess we can take your word for it

Is this feature being discussed next, Yes or No?

  2. I just realized AD didn't have this feature. The lack of these (or Affinity-ish implementation) selection options seriously hinder my work as well, I temporarily need to switch back to Ai for this reason.

I must say I'm not amused that this thread started almost 3 years ago.

    [ +1 for the feature ]

A thread opened 3 years ago and way overdue for an a official response.

  3. I'm not sure I follow exactly... It is not a mode toggle.  You can make a series of transformations, then reset the selection box to a uniform box.

Note that this only affects the selection box - it does not change the objects internal bounding box and transform.

Objects maintain their transforms so that they can be subsequently edited when re-selected - and you can "revert" components of the transform such a rotation or skew.  We intentionally did not follow what other apps do where every time you transform the selection box reverts back to a uniform rectangle (with these apps it's almost impossible to remove rotation or skew once it has been introduced).

The selection box toggle gives the best of both worlds in allowing you to get a uniform selection rectangle which can then be used for scaling with snapping.

While I whole heartily appreciate a current accessibility of the bounding box to easily be able to go back and edit the shape (fantastic feature), a permanent reset or an actual toggle mode is a huge request. Please and Thank you.

  4. Hi QuietDesign,

    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

I don't know if you are already aware but you can already isolate pressing and holding ⌥ (option/alt) and clicking on a layer in the Layers panel. All the other objects will return as soon as you select something else or click on canvas.

MEB, I was totally unaware. Thank you for pointing it out. Are there any plans to improve the mode? Having the isolation mode fade and/or outline the rest of the artwork would be a better experience than if the isolation mode hides everything on the board. Also adding symbol isolation (unless this exists already) would be fantastic. Last, it was mentioned above, maybe implemented shortcut for selected items on the board in addition to (option/alt) in the layers panel.
