Does the Serif development team still exist?
PaulEC replied to JpLaf's topic in Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Or you could volunteer the information and explain the problem straight away, rather than starting a thread with an unrelated title. It seems like you're more interested in trying to make a point and complain rather than actually getting help to solve a problem! -

If it's the latest update that's causing you problems, and it was OK before, why not just go back to the previous version? -

The same for me! – I have every sympathy for people who do have problems with lagging, crashing and so on, but there are so many possible combinations of software and hardware that I can't see how it's possible for a software company to allow for, and test for, every possible configuration. I'm sure they also have to be wary of changing something to solve a problem for some people, which introduces more problems for other people! -
I'm sure Affinity Designer is lagging behind every comparable piece of software, according to the manufacturer of the other software! What I would really like to see is a similar comparison document, published by any company, that shows that someone else's product is better than their own. (If such a thing exists, I suspect that their Marketing Manager would have been quickly sacked!)

While I can't help feeling that it's a bit unrealistic to think that anyone can just "have a go" at implementing any new feature in software such as Affinity, I have to applaud William for taking a positive approach to a problem, rather than the usual negativity of "Serif don't care", "Affinity is rubbish", "Don't say anything if you don't agree with me" and so on!
-
The simple fact is that the Affinity Suite should support Indic languages and RTL text, and Serif are certainly taking their time in bringing this about. There are also a number of other, often requested, features that many people are waiting for, not to mention many, long standing, bugs which need to be fixed. Like other Affinity users I get frustrated by the slow progress in these areas, but I am not convinced that creating endless new posts, repeating the same things, does anything to help the situation: Serif are obviously already aware that many people have real concerns about the development of the their software! What does seem to be entirely unproductive are the numerous posts, from a small number of trolls, who have nothing new to say, and who do nothing but repeat the same derogatory cant about Affinity software, Serif as a company and any users who dare to disagree with them! Perhaps a little more support and positivity for the software that people choose to use would be better than endless denigration of it!

Pictures for An Art Show that may never happen
PaulEC replied to William Overington's topic in Share your work
Having the "right tools for the job" is important, but it's the artist's skill and imagination that is most important, not the media or software used to interpret their ideas. If an artist genuinely believes that what they produce is a work of art, then it should be accepted as such. For example an ordinary telegram can be a portrait of someone if the artistic intent is there. (https://www.artsy.net/artwork/robert-rauschenberg-this-is-a-portrait-of-iris-clert-if-i-say-so) However, while accepting that it is a work of art, that does not mean that each viewer should not be free to have, and express, their own, honest opinion of the quality of that artwork. The validity of something being a work of art depends on the artist, but it's value as a work is a matter of individual opinion. For example, while I can accept that both a piece of paper with a typewritten message (see link) and a Pre-Raphaelite painting are both works of art, I would prefer to hang the latter on my living room wall! -
But it was being said that it was "junk" anyway. If you agree with that why would you use it even if it did have RTL/Indic language support? Affinity does not support these languages, so why buy it in the first place, unless there was something else about it that you wanted? If not, why not wait until it did support the languages you want before buying it?

No, I was hoping to put it politely, but I don't think I could explain what it is about the character of Enoch Soames that reminds me of William, and some of his ideas, without being rather rude! -

How did you get from depositing a publication in the British Library to having "an art show" there? Depositing a publication, which will only ever be seen by someone who specifically requests to view it, (from the 200 million odd other works there), is a far cry from it being "an art show in a reading room"! This whole thing reminds me slightly of Enoch Soames! 🤭 -
Apparently there is no problem with Adobe having Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign as three separate apps, which don't all have the same features and, additionally, don't share a common file format. The main difference, compared to the Affinity Suite, is that Affinity has StudioLink, so that you can go seamlessly from one app to the other, and a shared file format, so that any file can be opened, and edited, in any of the apps.

Hi @crazzzybagel, Welcome to the Forum Firstly you need to enable "Import PSD Smart Objects" in Settings. However, Affinity Photo does not fully support all Photoshop features, so you may find that you have to manually adjust some Mock-ups/ Smart Objects yourself.

I can't say that that is my experience, but if Affinity is as bad as you say, there doesn't seem much point in adding Indic language support, as, if other people agree with you, they are hardly likely to buy it anyway! Surely no one would buy "a subpar, banal, and utterly outdated piece of junk" just because it supports any particular language?

Rotate Using the Move Tool
PaulEC replied to bvf's topic in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
When you first open the image it is locked, just unlock it! (You can tell by the lock symbol in the layers panel and the crosses at the corners of the picture.) If you don't want this to happen, unselect "Automatically lock background layer on import" in Settings - User Interface. -
Macro panel Disapeared in V2.6.3

Well, if it's OK now, that's the main thing! 👍 -
Macro panel Disapeared in V2.6.3
PaulEC replied to FoTenX's topic in Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I only queried it because you said that the Macro Panel was missing. Your screen shot shows that "Macro" is in the Window Menu, but not ticked. If you enable it does the Panel not show up? -

PaulEC replied to FoTenX's topic in Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
It sounds like you may be using Affinity Publisher, rather than Affinity Photo, if so you need to have Affinity Photo installed to be able to use the Photo Persona. (FWIW, Affinity Designer does not support macros at all.) -
Kerning in Photo?
PaulEC replied to Phatman's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Although APhoto is primarily intended for photo editing, it does have some text editing features. You can access the Character and Paragraph Panels etc from the Window Menu (they are under Text). You seem to be confusing kerning with tracking; you don't use kerning for a "text field", it is intended to be used between pairs of characters. This item from the APub help explains the difference: https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Text/trackingKerning.html&title=Tracking and kerning -
Well, personally I always have the Transform Panel showing (because I use it regularly) and the Info Panel is normally hidden (because I only need it occasionally). I can't see how displaying the height and width of what is being transformed is unrelated to the Transform Panel: I certainly don't want the height and width to be displayed in a different panel to the one I am using to change it! I'm afraid I've never really gone with the "that's how Adobe does it, so everyone else should be the same" school of thought: If I wanted to use Photoshop (as I did for many years) that's what I'd do, rather than expecting, or wanting, Affinity to be a cheap clone of it!
