"afphoto"-Files get HUGE
PaulAffinity replied to feuerfloh's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on Windows threads
While Speed is an issue for ALL users, I am a little surprised at the heat of this thread, unless speed is the issue. I really don't see the issue of file size (unless it causes a major speed difference, say to loading a similar PSD project?) OR backup issues (surely not with a 2TB usb HD at 50 Euros or less... I have 100k+ images on a 640gb drive and 2 x 1TB cheap backup drives... Plus google+ photos (jpgs) I have PSDs that are way bigger than these AFphoto projects. I infrequently maintain many PSD/AFphoto projects (unless there is something I foun dthat I can reuse), instead my workflow is; 1. Load jpg, undertake image manipulation to produce my best 'clean baseline image'. 2. Export baseline as Myimage-base001.jpg 3. Use this for various test streams of workflows and save EACH as *-basennn.jpg 4. Rinse - repeat... Just my workflow, I appreciate everyone had different needs... caveat - I NEVER use the same processing end-to-end workflow on any 2 images. Hope that helps. cheers, Paul -
Hi, I have tried a variety of Nikon images including D300, D5300 and get no data in these tab fields... Any ideas? Thanks P

Sorry

No pain, no gain. Perseverance as I have found has its benefits. AP is wondrous. I am a 54 year old PS expert..... p -

I am confused. OP Clicker; Given AP was developed on MAC first it is your assumption that it a PP upgrade. That has never been mentioned by Serif and no migration tools were issued with MAC AP.. You still have Photo plus so you can use and open SPP files as previously. Lost nothing. You NOW have AP which will open PS PSDs and can save in a variety of formats (but not SPP). Gained much. By my count whether AP opens SPPs or not you have gained. I accept it is a compromise, however you always have ADOBE...at a considerably greater cost. Cheers, P

Hi, for me each beta gets better and better. The WHOLE point of betas are to iron out bugs. Crashes are to be expected. This is particularly true of Windows where no 2 system configurations are the same! My beta test philosophy (I had 30 years in IT) is to load my machine, do a clean, switch off malware/antivirus software, disconnect extraneous hardware (wacom, special input devices, added screens, TVs on laptops etc..) THEN do a clean installation (without plugins). I then go through most of my basic workflow to check function, process, speed. I may run PS in parallel. I have AP video tutorials ready to run in a browser. After my basic test I then go through every menu item and test. Then on to multi level complex layer based workflow. When happy I add my input/output devices 1 at a time! Then restart the loop. I find this methodical approach identified either; 1. That AP does a function differently from PS. 2. A bug 3. A feature. 4. My input errors. 5. Windows component issues. 6. Hardware/Driver issues. AP is a breath of fresh air. For me it works. I am process driven so adaptation from PS to AP is easy for me. Cheers ,Paul

Very Slow 'Refine Selection'
PaulAffinity replied to PaulAffinity's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on Windows threads
Refine selection appears to be undertaking some serious pre-processing. The modal dialogue box 'refine selection' just sits there for 20-30s. -
Very Slow 'Refine Selection'
PaulAffinity replied to PaulAffinity's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on Windows threads
Hi Chris, This dialogue box is BEFORE I do anything! It appears as I wait to select my refine option parameters. Cheers, Paul -
I have a pixel layer. I add a layer mask. I select the mask layer. I add a (radial) gradient ok. I exit the layer. I then right click on the mask layer (with radial gradient); If I use EDIT mask I cannot amend the existing mask If I use REFINE mask I cannot either. Is it editable, to amend the existing gradient? If so, how.. Cheers, Paul

I have tried the 'Refine Selection' option on a mask (see attached). The 'refine Selection' dialogue box sits there (even if I press cancel) for 20-30 seconds. Any ideas? Cheers, PAUL

Macro (record) limitations...
PaulAffinity posted a topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on Windows threads
I have set up a couple of basic 'start-up' macros fine.(3-9 step) There appears to be several limitations when recording, for example when I set up a default Gradient. LayerMask-> Gradient->Set radial -> Select node-> Amend colour to black etc. Obviously I am unaware of ALL limitations until I try (and fail) to record a macro I want. Will the limitations be addressed before Live? Cheers, Paul -
Hi Camille, CTRL+J works. Ensure you have the pixel layer (or image) selected first, cheers P
