Publisher update totally trashed my installation
willernest replied to ROBING's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
You might want to try to reboot and reinstall. There's been a regular problem with updating any of the Affinity apps. The update deletes the existing install but fails to reinstall. Usually a reboot takes care of it. It has something to do with Windows "mood" at the time. -
I just uploaded a crash report. Rotating a picture in a frame -90 degrees. Base document was created in 1.7.3.481 and had some prior editing in 1.8. Unable to reproduce taking the same steps in .556 on a new document.

Is it still worth reporting that updating the beta versions (and generally to release versions) fail after the point where the previous version was uninstalled? I've sent logs a couple of times but apparently they weren't informative. Just restart the PC and install the software as if it wasn't an update. Works and not that much of a problem but still kind of klunky. On rare occasions an update might work so there is apparently a right way to do things. Posted here simply because it seems more active. By the way, no exotic software.

Attached is the log file from the failed install - picked Publisher as the last. All three apps show the same behavior. Somehow it doesn't think it has the necessary permission to install. This has been an on and off things - currently apparently on. With a reboot, all three will install without complaint. SetupUI.log

.464 install fails - AD & AP
willernest posted a topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on Windows threads
The install of the .445 versions went flawlessly. Now again the .464 versions fail (the application is removed but something stuck) and require a reboot. Then they install as a new installations and work fine. The StudioLink works as well.. It may be related - Windows did an automatic install of the 2019-08 maintenance for 1903 last night and got stuck on restart (and updated fine on a reboot). -
Beta updates STILL failing
willernest replied to Rick G's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
It might be worth trying the newest publisher update .442. For the first time in memory, it updated on my machine (Win 10 1903) without a hitch. All previous attempts required a reboot. -
Publisher at .422. Downloaded Photo at .434 and StudioLink successfully linked. Downloaded Designer at .434 and StudioLink failed (says get beta). Uninstalled Designer beta and reinstalled. Same situation. Looked for earlier approaches - go to …\appinfo\Beta and delete Designer Release.appinfo. After most recent installed of Designer beta there is nothing under that directory. For non-beta (Release directory) there is both Designer Release.appinfo and Photo Release.appinfo and of course for the Release version StudioLink worked out of the box (realizing that it didn't for many). Windows 10 version 1903. What next?

Perhaps this has been suggested before. I haven't found the search function to be very selective. In Publisher you can change the fill of the Frame portion of a text frame. In Designer you can only change the Text portion. It would seem that the code exists to support this feature in Designer (and perhaps eliminate some duplicate code) so I suggest that that function be added. I had earlier asked a question and was fortunately pointed to this solution for my current project.

I thought it was a fluke but I experienced the same thing, slightly differently. I deleted a set of styles (imported in earlier betas) and then re-imported them. On the import they no longer showed in the list but when trying again they showed as already installed. A restart showed them there. The same thing happens with the current Publisher beta.

I've created a text frame from a circle. At that point you can easily change the color of the circle. Convert it to a text frame. Type in some text. Once you're in a text frame, the various options for color are then associated with the text itself. How does one go back and change the background color of the circle?

Linked resource changed popups round
willernest replied to Wosven's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
I haven't had the crash, perhaps because I only have 30-40 external references but it is a pain to have to close all the message boxes.. This only seems to have occurred, for me, with the .238 version. Also, references to cloud locations (Onedrive) that are only in the cloud (not downloaded to the PC) show as "Missing" in the Resource Manager. -
Table options all greyed out
willernest replied to willernest's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Ignore the previous message - I found my mistake. -
I have a table populated with text. I don't want any sort of framing on the table entries. However it seems that there is a default (?) of a thin set of lines around each cell. I go to display the Table menu in the Studio view and it shows under Frame a 1.5 pt grey stroke. All the options to change it are greyed out as is every other option to change it. I can't imagine that would make sense but perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place to make the change.

Is there a way to open and/or place a .pdf "as is" - without trying to do font substitution? I simply want to paste in additional text on top of an existing pdf supplied by someone who uses fonts I don't have (and probably won't). I can convert the pdf to a jpg but it seems like there should be a way. Thanks,

CPU Loop in .209
willernest replied to willernest's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on Windows threads
Went back now to Designer to close it out. Stuck as no responding on the Brush Editing window. 0.1% CPU reported. Cancelled as well. -
Using the .209 versions of both apps. I haven't been able to duplicate it but Photo went into a loop (ended via Task Manager) in the following circumstance. I was creating a number of .png images to use as nozzles for a brush. I went to add these nozzles to the brush and when going to use the brush things seemed to stop. I thought it was just slow in Designer but on checking Task Manager it was Photo that was hung up. Going to Photo it asked me if I wanted to save the current image I was editing; I said no and the screen went gray at that point. Photo was running at 98% plus and I cancelled it. I went back and did what I thought would be equivalent but it hasn't recurred.

Export Text Styles
willernest replied to willernest's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Thanks. Makes sense, in a way. -
In the dropdown menu for text styles there is an option to Import styles. However there doesn't appear to be an option to Export them. I created my own styles in a document and would like to bring them into a new document. Is there a way to do that? The import would look to export the whole set rather than selective so presumably the export would be as well.
