I was testing this new beta. I opened 4 RAW files at the same time. I took a little long to open them but it did. It seemed to work at first, but after a few seconds, doing nothing but looking at the screen, AP crashed with the following error message: An Unhandled Exception has occured.... Code: 0x0000005 The resolution was also changed from 1920 x 1080 to 1024 x 768 Wndows 10 64 bits 6 Gb RAM Integrated Intel Graphics Card. I still don't have any Crash Report saved.

It's a known bug that should be corrected in the next beta.

Well.. I tried but I've been unable to reproduce it. All I can remember is that I had opened, worked on, saved and closed many files before that crash. I had been working for more than one hour before it happened. I used masking and "refine edges" extensivly during this work. I also wonder why I don't have any file in the crash folder after a crash. Even thoug there are some bugs and crashes... I used AP for real life work after a photo shoot ( I know I should not ) and I can say I love it and I'm looking forward to the final release version.

I opened a jpg file, worked a little on it, exported it and closed the file. Opened a second one and did the same thing. When I opened the third one AP crashed with the error code shown in this picture. I can't find any .dmp error file. I don't know if this file is deleted when I restart AP.

Well.... A lot of fixes.... but sadly this morning I have to go back to PS. The text tool problem is too hard on my patience. Yes, it takes a long time to drop down, but after you selected the new font, you still have to wait to regain control to continue working. I'll come back for the next beta. I still appreciate this software and your work very much.

When you change or add keyboard shortcuts, after a few modifications or addition, any key you try to enter results in "DeadCharProcessed" in the key input box. From there on you can't modify or add any shortcut. You have to terminate the application, restart it and then you're good for a few more shortcuts before the same "DeadCharProcessed" comes back. AP 1.5.0.38

I just modified many shortcuts and AP kept them all... But I changed many and a bug poped out. Reported on this post.

Just wondering how updates work in Affinity Designer. There is no "Check for Updates" in the menus, and it does not show any "Checking for updates" when AD starts. Does it check without showing it or do we have to check in the support forum one in a while? Or I am simply missing something? Thanks.

You don't have to apologize, I can easily imagine you have enough work to keep you busy.... I made some research and found out that this is a frequent problem with Sigma lenses (and some others too). With this lens mounted on my Canon 80D camera the exif only shows "17-50 mm" as for the lens ID. None of the program I have, including PS and Lightroom, have the right ID of that lens. So AP is not the only one having problem with it, but it's the only one that show a "Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8.IS USM" lens The exif data could probably be diffent when mounted on a different camera, but I can live with that. I can upload a 32 Mb RAW file if you still need it, but I don't think it will be useful. Thanks for your concern.

This was posted in 1.5.0.37 but I don't know if it has been seen as the only answer wast that there is a new beta (.38) The following problem is exactly the same in 1.50.38 Most Nick plugins don't work. AP crashes here also adding a control point in Viveza with the same error code mentionned above. ​Color Effex Pro 4 does not work. It loads ok, seems to work, but after an abnormal long time Ap returns without any new layer from Color Effex Pro. ​Silver Effex Pro works slowly but does not create the effect on a new layer as it normaly do. ​Sharpener Pro 3, loads, seems to work, but when you press OK the screen becomes black, only the AP tools are visible, and when AP reappears after a few seconds nothnig has changed. Topaz Labs Simplify works but much slower as it used to. And when it loads the screen become black again with only the tools visibles, distorted because the resolution is changed (lower) and then it appears. ​It's the same for Noiseware plugin. ​If I change to WARP instead of the default Graphic Driver, most plugins work, but a few bugs are still there, for example, Nik filters don't create a new layer, but they work. Nik Viveza works as long as you don't insert a "control Point", if you do it crashes as before. But with WARP there is no more change of resolution when starting those plugins and th AP interface does not disappear anymore. ​I don't see any speed difference using WARP. EDIT: Selection works slower with WARP

1.5.0.38 While settiing Recolor Slider the screen became black just showing tools in a lower resolution then white, and gets back to normal. It happens very often. Here is the white screen I had time to grab.

After having experienced a problem I made the following test... Open raw image, make a few adjustments and then click "Develop", a few seconds go by and it opens in Photo persona. So far so good... Used the Defringe filter from the top drop down menu (destructive), it works very well, then "Flatten image" took approx 1.5 seconds. Same operation but then used the "Live Filter" Defringe. Worked fine but took a little longer. Then "Flatten Image".... CPU goes to 95%, memory goes to almost 3 GB and it seems like a never ending operation, I waited almost 10 minutes. All I can do is to End Photo via Task Manager. Repeated the experience a few times.... always same results.

That works very well when you use a mouse. But with a pen that doesn't work, you cannot press the two buttons at the same time. Why wouldn't "Alt" + "right-click" and dragging work. Actually, with a pen, we have to go to the top menu to change the size, that's a little counter-productive. I wonder if this could be change by creating a new shortcut....

The easiest way, select the mask you want to copy to another layer. "Ctrl-J" to duplicate it and then just drag it on the layer where you want it.

I have a Wacom Bamboo Capture that works flawlessly in all apps but AP and AD. My problem is that when I select a tool the cursor stays a "regular Windows arrow". It like if it was loosing its "look" when it goes anywhere over the interface but the drawing surface. If I mouve my mouse over the drawing surface and then use my pen again, the icon is restaured to what it should look, as long as I don't go out of the drawing or picture area it remains ok. If I go select another tool the cursor reverts back to a "selection arrow", wich is normal for the tool or menu selection, but does not changes back when you come back over the drawing or picture surface. If I uncheck "Use Microsoft Ink" via the Wacom setup it then works ok... but then I loose pressure sensitivity.

This is not a very important bug, until someday there is a "Lens Profile" correction in Develop.... which I hope. My Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 lens is recognized as a "Canon EFS-17-55 f/2.8" lens.

I understand your point, I can imagine using the pen directly on the screen it make sense. It's not that obvious whith a graphic tablet sitting on a desk. Thanks for this quick and good answer.

Yes, I have a Wacom tablet installed. Indeed, if I change to "left-handed" via "Tablet and PC Settings" in Windows Control Panel then menus work ok, they open to the right and the pen works fine. Changing to "left-handed" in the Wacom settings does not make any difference. Note that it also fixed PS menus behavior. But isn't it weird that I have to set Windows to "left-handed" to make the menus work properly? Thanks.

Same problem here. I opened a jpg file which is 4064 X 2424 px at 300 dpi Resized the file to 144 dpi and saved in AP format, and then exported as a JPG. Result file (AP format): 1950,7 X 1163,5 px -144 dpi Exported as JPG : 1950 X 1163 px - 300 dpi Zooming in the image shows that the JPG file looks much better.

I have been a PS user for many years and never liked neither used Adobe Bridge. Faststone Image Viewer has been my photos browser of choice. You can even edit your raw files with it. Click on a photo, tap "E" and your favorite photo editor starts with the photo opened. And I don't see why we should not compare AP tp PS.... the more I use AP, the more I'm sure that it could fulfill the needs of many PS users.

Yes PS opens submenus to the left also and I don't like it very much, but I don't think Adobe will care about my opinion on this. Im PS submenus are on a white background over the dark bg of PS, it makes it probably less apparent. But in AP , black on black.... Here are the sceenshots for Filters, Plugins and Studio.

First, congratulations for this software and your hard work. I really appreciate it. I can feel that the day I will switch from Photoshop is not far. It doesn't take long to get used to the UI, but there is a part of the top menu that annoys me, it's the way submenus under the "Filters" section open. They open up to the left of the main section. They almost cover the tools. Same for the submenu "Plugins" and also "View" - "Studio" which covers some of the tools. It seems to me that if these submenus opened to the right of the main section it would be more logical and aesthetically more pleasant. I wonder if I'm the only one seeing that this way, but maybe it's just me. Thanks again.
