Unfortunately, that's not even close to what we're talking about. Creating and anchoring (pinning) frames IS impractical when you have dozens or even hundreds of cases of its use in a single document. If it can't be applied on the fly in the text flow of a multi-column text frame, then it's simply not a viable workaround.

Splitting is basically the same idea as spanning, except in reverse. You split selected text into two (or more) columns in a single column text frame. It's perfect for when you have a bullet list you want to take up as little space as possible with.

Yeah, this would be a HUGE help in migrating to Affinity apps. I don't like splitting the columns of panels on the sides of the screen—I prefer them all on the right.

I would love it if you could dock panels side-by-side on the right side of the app window. Currently, you can have one column of docked panels, but I really prefer two or even 3 columns as I have set up in Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator (see screenshot below). Splitting them up on the left and right of the app window is just cumbersome to me.

While I don't think Span Columns and Split Columns missing from APub is as "crippling" as some users state, it is inconvenient enough for me that I can't justify investing the time and money to learn the app, to begin with. I don't expect a full InDesign replacement on day 1, but Span and Split columns is a hell of a lot more important than the Stock photo integration.

For most people having this issue, that won't fix it. I've completely uninstalled all three apps (including app preference files) and reinstalled them twice (once installing Publisher first, then another time last). I've tried opening Publisher first, and also last. All three apps are version 1.71 and all three are in the Applications folder. Nothing I do will get StudioLink to recognize the other two apps in Publisher. At this point, I've wasted enough time (along with the many other issues with Publisher) that it's no longer worth even trying to use them.

I have no idea where you got the idea that Adobe bought InDesign or Illustrator. Both those apps were written from the ground up by Adobe. Photoshop was purchased before it was even a 1.0 product back in the 80s, so you can basically say that it's an Adobe original. I'm aware that we can subscribe to only InDesign, but the cost is nearly half of the entire CC suite. Saving $20 per month isn't worth the effort of switching. Saving the entire $50 per month is.

You know what I see nearly every graphic designer in the damn country using? InDesign on a desktop/laptop computer. You know what I don't see a single graphic designer using, anywhere, ever? An iPad Pro. Very disappointing news to hear of the Publisher delay. My company (and me personally) are waiting to switch to all the affinity apps and dump Adobe CC. But we can't do it until there is an app to replace InDesign

As an Adobe app user since the late 80s, it's hard for me to say that I've about given up on them. I use the apps out of pure convenience at this point. I'm soooooo looking forward to Publisher because I do need all three apps to make the switch to an Infinity workflow instead of an Adobe one.

You're comparing an illustration app to a page-layout app. It's kinda like saying Illustrator is horrible at editing raster images compared to Photoshop. InDesign does offer master pages (it has since version 1 back in the late 90s), as well as the ability to unlock master page items on a per page basis. I'm not sure what Freehand offered in this area that ID doesn't. Illustrator offers artboards, and multiple pages; so I'm not sure what you're finding lacking in AI there.

There are dozens upon dozens of photo editors available as alternatives to Photoshop. If you really want to make a splash, an InDesign replacement is your best bet. That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.
