When resizing an artboard, I'd like the artboard to snap to the edges of the contents within the artboard itself. Often times I'm resizing the artboard to fit the contents. With snapping turned on I expect the artboard to snap to the contents as well. This would really be a great little time saver rather than having to zoom way in to see if it's precisely where it needs to be.

Coming from Sketch to Affinity one thing I really miss are plugins to help fill gaps. A great one in Sketch/Photoshop is Craft by Invision. Its a bunch of features to help with designs but it also allows for you to easily export designs to Invision. This is great because you can immediately post a design to a project on Invision and share the link to get feedback in as few steps possible. I'd like to see Affinity designer allow plugin developers to add more functionality to the app so it can improve my workflow.

Mac mini 2018
HYR replied to HYR's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Got the Mac mini 2018 today and installed the memory. The process wasn't too bad. I bought an iFixit toolkit which really aided in the process. Nice to have 32GB of RAM with the ability to upgrade to 64GB! Anyway, I just downloaded the Affinity apps. If I see any issue's I'll post them. -
Compatible Versions Designer and Photo?
HYR replied to JoanKauai's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
@meb should Publisher's "vector" and "photo" personas be working with the latest 1.7.x betas of Designer and Photo at this time? -
Affinity Designer PSD export improvement?
HYR replied to HYR's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Makes sense. I was just curious if it was being addressed in this next version (v1.7). -
Has anything been done (or can anything be done) to have better compatibility with PSD's in AD 1.7? I just did a quick test, exporting a simple file with 1 line of text and 4 simple shapes as a PSD and opened in the latest version of Photoshop and they're all rasterized, which is not useful to me when I want to work in Affinity Designer as my primary tool and export PSD's for clients to have an editable copy of the work since they use Photoshop. Does that make sense?

Symbols in Affinity Designer 1.7 (split)

Symbols for me where very unreliable and since I didn't see it listed as having been improved I thought I'd ask about it. -

Mac mini 2018
HYR replied to HYR's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
@MattP Thank you for your response! That's exactly what I had hoped to hear. I am hopeful that Mac mini 2018, because of the memory upgradability and the eGPU via T3 port (along with the other three T3 ports) will extend the life of the machine for me. I appreciate it! Thanks! HYR -
Mac mini 2018
HYR replied to HYR's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hey thanks guys! Good feedback. I'll wait. I did see it's not an easy process but I'm tired of being stuck with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. I'd like a machine with 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD because I keep running out of memory and storage on my laptop. But I'll wait a bit. Thanks! -
Mac mini 2018
HYR replied to HYR's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I'm pretty comfortable with any Mac, just can't afford most of them. I'm interested in the Mac mini above because I could upgrade the RAM myself up to 64GB and it seems like a decent machine. My only concern was the GPU issue. How will this affect my experience with Affinity products now (which based on the tweet thread above, not much at all) and in the future? @MattP mind sharing your thoughts? -
I'm considering buying the Mac mini 2018 the following specs (copied off of Apple's cart page)... 3.2GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz) 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 (Upgrading to 32GB of RAM myself) Intel UHD Graphics 630 1TB SSD storage Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet using RJ-45 connector) Accessory Kit Now I've not purchased a Mac in some time now so I'm not up on all of the latest info. My only concern is I keep seeing the lack of a quality GPU being raised as an issue in some reviews. But I saw on on twitter this tweet about the affinity products not using GPU for much right now. Besides all of the Affinity products I still occasionally need to use Adobe apps (which I try to avoid). So my question is, is there any reason not to buy the Mac mini as my primary design work station? (Perhaps some of the Serif staff could clue me in?)

strokes and frames like in Pages?
HYR replied to elastico's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I’m hopeful the tools you need will be part of the vector persona once that’s ready. -
I agree. That’d be fantastic.

Affinity Photo iPad: Undo/Redo gestures
HYR replied to HYR's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on iPad
So glad to see that Affinity Designer for iPad has these gestures! Such a fantastic app. Looking forward to Affinity Photo for iPad getting them too. -
As a designer and a developer I find there's an area where design apps could really learn something from code editors. There's a trend in recent code editors to use a Command Pallet (⇧⌘P) which allows you to type anything and find/invoke anything. It's great for quickly getting to hidden things. For me, Affinity apps packed with a power and you have to hide some of those options (if not most) to make the user interface, well... usable. A Command Palette could really help users to find and use different aspect of apps without having to dig around the user interface. Some example use cases: find and open any palettes show/hide studio panels run macros open a specific preference run commands that don't have keyboard shortcuts Take a look at how code editors (like VS Code, Atom, Sublime Text) are using them to get some ideas.

I really really really want a "pattern tool" for making large repeating patterns for prints as well as small patterns for web design. Pretty please.

Affinity Photo iPad: Undo/Redo gestures
HYR replied to HYR's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on iPad
Yeah I saw the undo and redo buttons. I find I don't use drawing apps (on the iPad) that don't have the 2-finger undo and 3-finger redo because I get frustrated I have to look else where do those simple actions. Doing so takes my focus off of the work at hand. Those gestures feel so natural, hard to do it any other way now. I'm hopeful you guys can add those gestures. Thanks! -

Scroll Layers Panel to Selected Layer
HYR replied to HYR's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
When I ⌘+click on a layer in a group the group expands and shows the selected the layer in AD. That doesn't work for you? -
Scroll Layers Panel to Selected Layer
HYR replied to HYR's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Just to be clear, at the time I requested this feature it didn't behave that way. But the fine folks at Serif included it pretty fast!
