  1. About to get one but my question is what happens when there are updates in the software that would not be in the book?
  2. Odd. Had to create a new account in the shop? It is different to the account I am using for the forum?
  3. Still seeing the transition back to photo showing a previous edit after using the edit in affinity photo extension.
  4. Should I be having a problem with the Beta extensions showing in Photo? Edit. Forget that. They have popped up some time later. So, give it 20 mins or so if they are not immediately there.
  5. Not sure this has been covered.Shifted from the wrong beta thread. From Apple Photo, use the edit in affinity extension, edit away etc. Decide to leave the image alone and un altered and revert back to Photo by closing down Affinity and the Photo window retains a previous edit to action before continuing.
  6. Ah fudge. OK, I am finding why I went away from Photos.......... Look at the edited in the main Photo viewer and the info says RAW. Look at it in the simple photo editor and it is JPEG. Click revert to original and it is back to RAW however the way Apple Photo works with RAW in its menus is frustrating. However. This extension is looking like it will do what I want. I can export from the Affinity editor then revert to original back in Photo and leave it as it was, or edited for the family etc. Might be getting there. But see now that it is as you said a few posts up. Canon Digital Photo Professional is quite good though and wonder now how to combine them. I pretty much use Affinity more than anything for editing but checking and some RAW on Canon, maybe that is an ask to link easily to or from? Will mess with the tiff options later.
  7. Ah, so you now have me wondering if the info on my returned cropped was actually pointing to the original in the "masters" inside the photo library but the modified one was a JPEG in the main viewer but it did not show on the info (as it was pointing to the original)? After modifying the image in such a way it would stand out from the original, the crop, I searched for the file name. Still using the same one the camera had issued and it only showed up once. As a RAW. Must make not of the sizes then and compare again. More experimenting later I think. I deleted the images (they were a test). Personally I liked iPhoto for my humble needs but Photo went the wrong way but this extension may do what I want as I am wanting to iCloud stuff. At the moment I have no real DAM, Photoshop Elements is what I tried, but not 100% liking it. Tried the trial of Lightroom but not sold, tried DxO and missed the boat on the sale for the new one so fishing for another angle that ties my iThings together. Just a fussy sod really. Saying that I still use the Canon editor more often for getting started and fire that off to Affinity on occasion. That is quite handy for checking focus and deleting stuff quickly.
  8. Think I managed to get one back as raw and replace the original. However when I dug in the "masters" folder, the original was there. The front pane preview on photos was showing the edited version. Need to play some more, any nots on this?
  9. Maybe answered elsewhere, can I ask how the image is dealt with going to and from Apple Photos? I tried an app recently that created a copy of each image in the user library to preserve the original, which of course increases disk space usage on every use. Then there was format limitations.
  10. OK, I have everything up to date. I can zoom in to at least 75% on the saved tiffX3 and it is there. Not seeing your attachment but see no reason to doubt it. Attached is a copy of what mine looks like. Edit. diving into my setting to see what I have wrong then? Edit 2. Stacked four or five of them and the displayed image is OK (as opposed to opening a single one). Save that stack as 8 bit tiffX3 and back to blocky.
  11. Yeah, I rejected that when looking for a backup option. :) I was looking for the option on this web site, I assumed there was a method here. I saw others could uplink files but I assume they are all images, the .cr2 is the issue I think? Just looking at my backup plan and there is a share room option. Never used it so looking to set it up. OK, this might work https://spideroak.com/browse/share/Jpics/Testpics
  12. I cannot attach a cr2 file (it will not let me), how best to a get this to you?
  13. Away from my computer for the day so I will have to do that later, or tomorrow am. Did not think to attach the cr2, the old 350 raw is only around 6.5mb.
  14. Not sure where in the beta forum I should ask this. Beta 1.4.1. I created a load of .tiff files from Canon 350D CR2 to try out the stacking and panorama (all 8bit tiff). The .tiff files were created in the released version and load OK in that version. In the Beta they are blocky and pixelated on opening. They were all saved with "Export X3" selecting the Preset "TIFF RGB 8 BIT" I converted one of the same CR2 files to .tiff 8 bit in the Beta and then saved it with no adjustments. That is developed the RAW with no adjustments then the "export x3". Closed the document. Then re opened the tiff file in Beta and it opens blocky and pixelated. I open that same Beta saved tiff file in the released version and it shows OK. If I use "Export x1", it opens OK in the Beta. I have tiff files using the same process that will open in Beta at "Export x3", the only difference is the camera. The problems ones appear to only be Canon 350D CR2 and the good ones a 7D mk1. At least as far as I have tried so far. My first question would be what have I done wrong, still on a learning curve. Loving the product BTW. Should I mention OS? I am on the beta for that as well.
  15. Thanks for the replies. I see that now. It would be nice but question answered. I am using "Open" and finder preview set to view images rather than file names and it works fine and came across media browser. Only problem with that is the .xmp files cluttering the view as I have directed PSE to those folders. If I jump ship, then they (.xmp) will be cleared out.
  16. I am trying the trial version. I am trying the media browser to go to my photos directory (mainly RAW) and it appears to be slow to drill down the folders, four folders in from main HD. Then it will take a while to populate thumbnails. It seems quicker to quit the program then re open and the selection starts to populate. What am I doing wrong? Not decided yet what I am going to use as a manager for the pics yet, half one program, half another but the folders are sort of logical for me but not buried in any iPhoto or Photo directory structure. Just the simple naming folders then date taken. So one folder might have three or four images whilst another might be loser to a few hundred. and anything in-between (I need to de clutter a few!).
  17. Hi there. Very amateur and in a mess with PS Elements (organiser and editor), iPhoto (which I liked and no longer use) and Photo (which I have big doubts over). Been using the Canon photo professional 4.x instead of PSE of late for basic RAW adjustments. Need a good organiser and editor that is within my capability. So, on with the trial, and trying the extension for photo to see if it all gels for me.
