  1. Is it possible to set Resample, rather than Unconstrained as the default for the crop tool so I don’t have to choose it each time? When setting the pixel dimensions for Resample, tabbing from field to field doesn’t work - it hides the palettes instead. Is there a different key for moving the cursor from field to field? Is it possible to set the Resample dimensions and have Photo remember them when I switch from image to image? At the moment as soon as I switch to a different image it ‘loses’ the settings I entered and also reverts to Unconstrained. Having to set this again each time when I am cropping a dozen images is a bit of a pain. Thanks ;0)
  2. Thanks. As I say, it didn't work for me for a shape either. Very confusing and seems a bit unworkable. I shall just not use it, then, as that seems . . unreliable, or at the very least, not very clear. ;0)
  3. I was watching this Affinity colour picker video earlier - https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/photo/desktop/video/311178534/ - and on trying the same thing found that the 'apply to selection' check box had no effect. I created a new pixel layer at top of layers palette, made a rectangular selection, used the colour picker to choose a colour from my image, and despite the 'apply to selection' box being ticked the shape didn't autofill with the selected colour. Tried it with a shape instead of just a selection, same result. Now very puzzled.
  4. Good point. I had assumed Designer would be able to output bitmap graphics as well as SVG if required. I’ll need to look into that. (And yes, all modern browsers support svg now)
  5. Thanks. I work with hand coders of the actual sites, so what I’ll be doing is developing design concepts for clients, and then templates for the coders to use as style guides when building the sites. I do occasionally also design materials for printing (posters, leaflets, flyers, etc) which I have designed very successfully in Photoshop CS4 till now. I suppose the real question is which is going to be the biggest culture shock and learning curve - switching from CS4 to Affinity Photo or to Affinity Designer?
  6. After many, many years trusty service used for designing websites I’ve finally got to move on from Photoshop CS4 and I’m looking at Affinity apps. What’s the better bet for designing web pages - Designer or Photo? I’ve not used a vector program for some years, though I used to work a lot in Illustrator so could probably pick up the vector essentials again if needed. Thanks.
  7. Thanks. That works, but what a clunky way to do it. Deary me. I like Photo, but today has been a saga of frustration today. On the horns of dilemma, as I'm being forced to either upgrade to Photoshop CC from my old trsuty CS4 that I've been happy with for years, or bite the bullet and jump to Photo. Apparent lacks like this are making the latter choice a harder one ;( C
  8. Thanks both. I can see that when I have the paintbrush tool selected. However, if I use the 'fill' shortcut that option doesn't show in the contextual bar. Is it not possible to specify alpha when just filling an object in this way? If not, that seems a very odd omission. There's much I like about Affinity Photo, but I'm _really_ struggling with the filling functionality - the lack of keyboard shortcuts to fill a shape with foreground or background colours (something I use dozens of times a day in Photoshop) it's going to be an uphill battle to switch from Photoshop. Thanks for the help so far, though. C
  9. In Photoshop, there is a 'lock transparent pixels' tick box for each layer so that when you fill the layer with a new colour it only fills the opaque areas. Is there an equivalent in Affinity Photo? I've looked through the Help, done a search on the forum, and also on Google, but can't find this anywhere. Very puzzling. Thanks for the help.
  10. Plus, of course, doing a 'save as' then opening that file to compare changes means you've got an extra file that you have to remember to delete later. I have quite enough iterative files as it is, without having to try to remember which ones are important ones and which were just created so I could compare them to ongoing tweaks. Both 'save as' and snapshot are inferior to Photoshop's 'duplicate', in my view, and I'm really going to struggle to adapt to Photo with out ;( C
  11. Thanks, but the difference is not having to open the other file ;). I use the 'duplicate' all the time in Photoshop, so that I can work on the duplicate and make changes and tweaks whilst still having the original 'master open on the screen beside it - really handy to be able to compare them as I go along. I appreciate that I can do this by 'save as' and open the new file, but it's an extra step that disrupts my flow. I also realise that I can create a snapshot and open as new document, but again, it's an extra step and not nearly as convenient. I see that this has been a feature request on this forum for a couple of years, now, so it doesn't look like it will be added. A real shame, as it would help smooth migration from Photoshop. Colin
  12. Was this functionality ever added. I use this all the time in Photoshop, and am really struggling without it in Photo. Ta.
  13. Tried messaging you but system tells me that 'Member MEB cannot receive more messages'. Colin
  14. Update . . If I select the type layer in the layers palette, I can then move the text block via the keyboard, but still not using the Move tool. Colin
  15. Thanks for the quick response. I've already got that box ticked, so I'm afraid that's not the issue. I've just tried it again. If I double-click with the Text tool, the text is editable, and once edited the text box is then movable. However, if I just select the Move tool and then the type layer, I can't move it. Also, I've just noticed that if I untick the text layer in question to hide it, then tick the box again, the text has vanished. But if I then uptick/tick another layer the text reappears. Very odd. Maybe it's something to do with corruption on import? I've tried it several times now but the problem persists. Thanks, Colin
  16. I’m trying to edit a file that I created in Photoshop, but am having problems editing text blocks. Sometimes when I select a layer with a text block on it, then select the Move Tool, the text block won’t move nor is there a selection around it showing the text block. The layer isn't locked - I've checked that. Any ideas? Ta.
  17. I use Adobe Bridge (and sometimes GraphicConverter) as file browsers for projects. At the moment Affinity Photo files previews are displayed in these programs with just the AP logo, rather than a preview of the actual artwork contents. I'e emailed Thorsten Lemke at GraphicConverter to request that file previews are shown, but he tells me that no information has yet been released by Affinity which will let him write the necessary code into GC. Is this something you plan to do, please? It'd be very useful. Thanks. Colin ** Apologies if this has already been requested - I did search, but couldn't find anything related.
  18. Where are these options? When I try to export a PDF it seems to offer PDF (web) and PDF (print) options, with no selector for different PDF formats. Ta. Colin
  19. Used it since 1995, been using CS4 since it came out and never upgraded to latest cloud versions. Even so, can't say I 'really use it'. I use the tools that have proved most useful to my graphic and web design work, but there are areas I've not used and have never needed to. Colin
  20. Is there an equivalent to Photoshop's Image > Duplicate feature in Affinity Photo? I use this a lot in Photoshop to open a duplicate version of the file I am working on in Photoshop so I can crop and edit without accidentally risking saving temporary changes to my original file. I know this can be achieved through snapshots and opening a snapshot in a new window, but that's got more steps and isn't so convenient for my 20 years of learned Photoshop habits ;) Good job on the app, Affinity. Looking like a serious alternative to PS, and I'll add my thanks to those of others in your offering an app that doesn't force me to 'rent' it from the cloud as part of a large and horrendously expensive suite. Colin
