  1. Hi Robert

For the clock face example, as an alternative way of doing things

Try creating 2 points of the clock with one continuous line, say, 12 to 6 o'clock.  Then you can power duplicate this line using the rotation set to 6 degrees and the centre of rotation set to the centre of the line all within the Transform panel

Then add a circle shape from the centre outwards and colour it the same colour of the background colour to hide most of the lines just leaving as much as the tick marks that you want to display

I have attached a couple of pictures to try to explain what I mean

Will this work for what you want to do?

  2. ...can you upload one here (or provide a link to one, if too big to upload)

Excuse my ignorance, but this is the first time I am participating in any forum and I have no clue how to upload a 50MB file for general use. If you could point me to the right direction I would be grateful. And don't forget I am not familiar with Macs I am a Win user.

50MB is probably too large for this forum.

Create a free account on something like https://www.dropbox.com/ then you can upload your file and share it via a URL created on the same site

  3. Yup +1

Anyone that wants to improve their work will always be open to suggestions, especially me, so I have no problems with someone offering alternative or additional advice on how they would have done what I did.

  4. ..............

     any other ideas gratefully received.

If you look at the edges of the couple in the picture you can see it is jaggy in places, like the lady's left arm and her hair.

A simple and quick trick to fix this is to select the Blur brush and using a small size brush just run the brush along the jaggy edges of the couple, which helps the image blend in to the background better.

  5. Apparently not that confusing, Alfred - this is the first post on the topic that I've seen, and the OP figured it out too.

There have been a few posts in the past where users have obviously been confused with this

There is simply no reason for the words "Affinity Files" to be in that particular export dialogue box, it should just say *.jpg, *.tiff or whatever format the user has selected.

By adding the words "Affinity Files" it looks like you are about to save in some form of proprietary Affinity file format

Mucho confusion the first time you encounter it

  6. Thanks, but ain't that just for equal distances between objects?

The picture you have attached shows the bottom row of 4 pictures with uneven horizontal spacing.

I assumed you wanted to know how to align the 4 pictures with equal spacing.  If so, you just select all 4 pictures and use the Align Horizontally command (space horizontally) to do so.

If not, can you elaborate on what it is you want to do?

  7. There is no need to do it another way if you have already done the 1 - 5 steps previously given by mac_heibu.

Just continue with steps 6 - 9 below

    1. Select the layer you want to re-color.

    2. Click onto the small icon at the bottom of the "Layers" section named "Adjustments".

    3. Choose "Black and White". -> An (non destructive) adjustment layer is placed on top of your image layer and the image turns black and white.

    4. Drag this adjustment layer onto your image layer. -> An adjustment layer mask is created.

    5. Select this layer mask and paint onto it. -> Black restores the colours.

    Continue here

    6. Select the Black and White adjustment layer mask on its own

    7. From the menus, Select > Selection From Layer

    8. Then select the background layer

    9. From the menus, Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur

and adjust the blur as required

  8. I'd also be interested if there is an equivalent or work around to PSE "Paste in selection" as I use this method to create a collage of images.

Don't use a selection, use a quick shape instead, like a rectangle or circle and put that where you would have put the selection.

Then with the quick shape selected use Edit > Paste Inside

That should give you the same result as PSE's "Paste in selection"
