  1. Tony, if you are going to benchmark, I'd look at vector magic rather than illustrator. In most cases it still produces better results IMO. Also, for the record I don't really think that vector tracing is particularly important in the grand scheme of things.
  2. As a file viewer it is actually pretty good, but lacking in some areas, you can't update real metadata or IPTC/XMP data, which is a little bit of a bummer. The import is a little painful but once over and done with it's actually pretty damned fast, though my use case is more general DAM/organisation/file viewing rather than specifically photography. Kyno is an interesting alternative to bridge, I'd wager it is faster (Chokes a wee bit on raw files, but it is about 5 minutes old) but again it's going to be a bit insubstantial for a full on photography guy. I'm dreaming of something with the features of lightroom and the file compatibility of Pixave (Sans library)
  3. I'm sure someone must have said something about this before, but sync disconnects an entire child object rather than the changed property of that object. I think you guys are missing a trick here. If I have a button and decide to change the font on all button symbols, if I have changed the text on one instance, this attribute will not be changed. Is it possible now or in future to have symbol overrides apply to individual attributes? Perhaps with a split part of the symbol pane showing the status of the currently selected instance and which attributes are overridden on it? A brucey bonus would be the ability to sync an override to all instances ;)
  4. So this is probably a very well trodden path, but I kinda feel it's an important thing to bring up for less obvious reasons. I'm aware that in the preferences you can swap object selection behaviour to selecting objects that intersect with the selection marquee(What a mouthful) but I feel that this option should be switched around, so intersection selection is the default and the alternative is the option to be toggled. Simply to make thing a little easier on pro adopters. I'm fairly evangelical when it comes to Affinity, I had honestly never even intended to switch, but over the last year Affinity Designer has become my go to over illustrator (To the chagrin of many of my colleagues and collaborators) I wax lyrical about its benefits to almost anyone who will listen and feel in some way personally invested in the success of this product. I've made about a dozen designers download a trial so far (And counting, all of my new employees are forthwith required to install and make use of affinity) and it's these little bits that strangely present the larger hurdles for adoption, in my experience at least. Those immediate impressions on a first time user with many years of muscle memory to undo. So, it'd be great to get this switched :)
  5. I may be a bit behind the curve here, but noticed the dropper tool is now BADASS. Great work guys. One thing I'd love to see, which has been niggling at me for forever is up and down arrow being able change all number box values (font size specifically) it's a bit of polish and a really long term issue. :D
  6. Yup, so that's what I'm asking about. It'd be nice to have some basic scriptability today. Surely macros are an implementation of basic scripting = catch an event, do a function, iterate.
  7. What would be the odds of getting macros in Designer too? Shared codebase and all that... I think it'd be super handy.
  8. @Kevin - pretty much that. They share a common center, which translates to larger movements in the larger circles as you move one of them, if you try it with a broader colour palette and bigger size increments it looks rather 3D. :)
  9. And to celebrate, I finally thought of a daft use for symbols. Hopefully no one has done this yet https://youtu.be/CFJVyL5a0UI
  10. Or better yet, an indicator of the currently sampled colour and the behaviour could simply apply the style once, with an option to continue applying this style on subsequent clicks, via a modifier, so you can grab one thing and apply it to a ton without switching tools or simply grab one thing, apply, grab another and so on.
  11. No, more features mean more clutter. "Planning/design" really translates into inefficient workflows, lots of roadblocks to getting work done and ultimately a mess of a product. Affinity has a common file format and pretty seamless interop today and they are both focused, performant tools. Also, by arguing that designer doesn't need raster tools just weakens your argument, you know that right? #RantOver #PostBrexitRage
  12. Or rightfont, which already supports (Rudimentary) font activation in affinity.
  13. This is an awesome addition to 1.5, I'm so glad it's finally here! It's one of those things I've had to get on with but colour picking has always been a chore in affinity. Now no longer thankfully! As always I have some suggestions for this new tool: I would vote "I" for the shortcut, it's the one everyone knows, but I'm sure you've heard that a dozen times this week I'd say, swap the dropper cursor over for a crosshair for more accurate picking. A modifier (or straight up toggle) to bring up the magnifying loupe would be killer, we've had it up until now with the current method, it'd be a shame for the dedicated tool to be less functional. COLOUR GATHERING! Anyone who has used xScope will know this one, but having a modifier for click to add the colour under the loupe to the currently open palette(Or straight to the document palette) would be aces! Super aces in fact. Mega fast palette building FTW. As always, keep up the sterling work.
  14. I've found an insta quit. Create a group with a shape and some text (Say, a button) turn it into a symbol, duplicate it, then double click to select the text inside the group. Boom.
  15. I'd love for this come out today. Could do with some good news today :'(
  16. A bit cheeky, but I thought this might be good place to do it. Sorry in advance. I'm looking for freelance graphic and web designers to add to my roster! We work for technology and visual effects companies mostly, focused on branding, web design and development. It's often building new, lovely brands for existing companies. A bit of background on me: I'm a graphic designer by trade, but a tech guy too, former Creative Director of The Foundry(The NUKE, MODO and mischief guys) and I continue work in the industries I know best - creative software and visual effects. If this sounds interesting. PM me or email me at ash@weareteriyaki.com All I need to know is are you a professional designer (Sorry enthusiasts :(), what you beleive your core strengths are(you can be totally honest) with a link to your portfolio and your availability and rates. Apologies again for the psuedo spam. Sorry. Ash ....Sorry. .....Sorry again.
  17. Good question actually, have you guys at least looked at it in wine? No commitments or owt.
  18. Do you remember this Matt? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/8284-object-searching-and-selection-sets/;)
  19. This is one that has annoyed me forever. cmd & shift sizing constraints in photo's crop tool. It just drives me insane that it's not there for some reason.
