  1. One feature of VS that I like because it outdoes the basic vector fill I needed is that you can vector fill an object/shape, then set the fill to distort with distortions of the object. 'Kinda like printing on rubber, then moving the rubber about. Perfect for part of what I've been looking for.
  2. Patrick Connor: As I have said to forum users here before you should buy the software for the features that the program already has and not the ones it doesn't. I've hesitated reentering this discussion, but I was disappointed in Patrick's reply above. Indeed, I bought Affinity Designer because it did what I needed - EXTREMELY AND PROFESSIONALLY WELL. However, my project and MY Customer requirements change. Now a large body of work that I am committed to requires such a feature. I was surprised when a prior incarnation (Serif Draw) and even freeware have this feature that I thought vector graphics software should have. My bad - I agree. So, I went to the forum to look for workarounds (which are really bad and don't work for me) and to express to Affinity my (and others' apparently growing desire) to have this feature. As others' have put it - for years, not a peep either way from Affinity. So this means to me as a Customer - that this forum is not to assist Customers nor to gauge Customer's needs. Thus, I like others, are purchasing alternative software - Its a free market. And this is a free market pressure for Affinity. Nuff said. No need for any more comment... from me.
  3. I should have added to my last comment - this issue is exacerbated by the absence of any information or care from Affinity. I really do love the Affinity Suite... but I gotta do my job with tools tat meet my needs. (Affinity - even if you say "No plans to ever address. Not a priority compared to other Users' requirements", that would be better than silence.)
  4. My frustration here is that it appears that Affinity keeps addressing things either enterprise users like or that are easy to implement - rather than implementing something BASIC TO THE NEEDS OF MANY USERS. ('So it becomes less relevant that AI and even Inkscape!!!) RE an earlier comment re Affinity's likelihood of continuing to ignore this ISSUE: I ask myself and Affinity - what use is this forum to users, if Affinity ignores, doesn't answer, or doesn't care about its content? I'm deciding, like some here apparently, that we can hear of better products (that meet our needs) and switch. I'm now using VectorStyler. If it ends up meeting all my needs, I'll no longer be an Affinity Designer promoter like I used to do.
  5. Been trying out VectorStyler.... great functionality... On a lark I made a pattern-filled object in VectorStyler (VS) and them copied/pasted into Affinity Designer (AD)... ...Guess what!?!? The VS pattern-filled objects were editable in AD! i.e., they were not images but real editable objects. AD vector edits respected the original pattern fill and I could also apply AD Effects to the VS Objects! This suggests some underlying pattern fill capability in AD after all!?!?
  6. I tried again under Windows 10 with Norton's Antivirus and it still intervenes Anyone else have this issue?
  7. I can't afford two separate packages (time or $ wise) - so am on the path to transition off of Affinity Designer (AD). Wanting to try VS but so far Norton's antivirus intervenes and says untrustworthy and removes from downloads. But AD's days are numbered in my shop.
  8. Adding voice to all the above with strong emphasis. I can't live without some solution for pattern fill. The current workarounds are a pain and I still check for alternative products monthly. As others put it - why isn't this feature in Designer!?!?
  9. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Got it. I was using the entirely wrong approach. (Duh) Many thanks Master Jedi./bow Humble Dennis
  10. Thoroughly frustrated and at a loss. Seeking help. Using Affinity Designer, I need to create over a hundred (approaching 200) diagram images for integrating into an Affinity Publisher document. The task is to trace an outline from an image, creating a vector object. Next, I need to fill that object with a standard-sized set of parallel blue lines, producing something that looks like this: In Serif DrawPlus 8 I could Arrange/Join/Intersect the object outline against a standard blue lined pattern to give a set of lines that fit within the original object outline. (see below..) Since you cannot do that in Designer, I tried creating one object with a standard bit mapped fill, then clipping the pattern to the outline object using the intersect function…. But, the resulting bitmapped fill is altered!!! It is nowhere near the original bitmapped spacing. It is impossible to manually insert bitmap fill and adjust each figure’s spacing – it takes too long. Designer also does not have bitmap swatches. Any suggestions on how to do this without an impossible investment of time in Affinity Designer? Many thanks to those more adept and patient that I, Dennis
  11. Duh, I should have seen this. Thanks for the pi, but my limit is 2*pi for my circle today. I'll save the rest for later. D
  12. (Please ignore the inserted 'comb. It happened by accident.)
  13. While creating certain drawing objects I need to have precise, easy control over certain dimensions A recent example that is frustrating me is that I need to draw versions of Pies with specific radii. That is, I need to have a series of similar or concentric pies, each with a specific, precise radius. The Pie/Donut tool allows you to specify the Hole Radius, Start Angle, End Angle and Total Angle, but I cannot enter an exact circle radius. Let me know if I am missing a specific feature or means, but I haven't found it yet. If not present, PLEASE add as a recommended future feature. D
  14. While I appreciate that Affinity Designer is not intended as a replacement for DrawPlus, there were features in DrawPlus that I relied on heavily and I find myself going back to. 'Specifically, the Quick Grid, Quick Comb and Quick Grill. I'm adding my vote for adding them as a future feature. The more diverse the smart tools are, the more valuable and the more time it saves for us. D
