  1. Hi all, First of all, thanks for implementing PDF passthrough - a real gamechanger for working with musical scores. In the latest version of Publisher, if I have set up lots of section titles and then add or remove a page, if I then undo the changes, the section titles do not revert to how they were before. For example, if I have Section 1 on pages 2-4, then add a page at the beginning of the file, then undo, Section 1 will be on pages 3-5. I can't see any way to revert the changes without closing and reopening (and hoping I didn't accidentally save). Apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere - I checked the thread of common issues but can't see it. Cheers
  2. Hi @SPaceBar, Sorry I thought it was embedded. I've uploaded the exact files used in the video to the Dropbox link you gave me earlier. Thanks for your efforts with my issue!
  3. Hi @SPaceBar Thanks for looking into this. Here's another video from today: Steps to replicate: Open the file "test file 2" attached here: https://send.firefox.com/download/56172bcfd9014ace/#LotSDMqwDbnZdEeDUmXneA Go to pages 6&7 Try to drag the frames to match the content of the music staves. For me at least, they resize in a crazy way as seen in the video. I've also included "test file 2 - with issue" that shows what happens afterwards.
  4. @Callum, thanks for your reply - I managed to capture it in the end and posted it in this thread:
  5. Done! The embedded file is a music PDF output by Dorico - it uses Bravura for the notes and music symbols and Academico for the text, numbers, etc.
  6. Hi, here you go (expires in one week): https://send.firefox.com/download/644910d6fa13de2d/#4Gt7hCqjR5pS5vrMU6N4NA There are two versions - the first with just the file placed in the master page and the second where the frames have been adjusted. In the second one you can see how the contents have also vertically resized despite being told not to scale. I'm using 1.8.3.641. Thanks!
  7. When PDF Passthrough arrives I will throw a street party in honour of the Serif gods.
  8. Since my other thread about this was moved I thought I would come back with a video of it actually happening in real time (the fun starts at 1:04). Resizing or moving a frame on a detached master page (with content scale set to 'None') will affect the content inside the frame, as well as the content inside other frames on other pages.
  9. Hi, I've posted a few things along these lines and last time it turned out to be my error. However this one has me tearing my hair out... I have an embedded PDF document (some sheet music from Dorico) and I have sliced it up using frames so I can position the music as necessary. I laid everything out perfectly earlier today, saved it and came back later.. to find that the vertical height of all my music has been slightly altered and now nothing matches up 🤮 All of the frames have scale set to 'None'. I was extremely careful when moving frames around that nothing was resizing or transforming in any way other than the frame itself. To make things worse, this was my second attempt at the project since I had to abandon the first one due to.... vertical height of the staves somehow becoming messed up. I was convinced it was my fault but now I am not so sure!! See the video for the end result (it didn't capture in the video put all of the properties have scale set to 'None'). Please tell me this is my user error (or something I can fix), otherwise I will have to abandon this project.
  10. Fair enough, thanks for the reply. I am glad that replace document exists. Got a nice workflow going.
  11. OK, slightly odd one here: If I have a picture frame selected with a placed PDF document positioned within it exactly how I want, and I go to "replace image", the replaced document's position in the frame is slightly changed. However, if I go via the Layers panel, click on the embedded document and go via "replace document", the position is maintained (which is better obviously!) I don't know how to embed a video here (can someone let me know?) - here's a YouTube link: https://youtu.be/ynleUlMwETo
  12. Good to see some other musicians on here! I've had some issues with Dorico PDFs into Publisher. I've only been able to get around them 100% by exporting from Dorico using the Microsoft Print to PDF function which seems to convert everything to curves so there are no issues with fonts etc. Should be available from Finale as well (although I've never used it!) if you treat it as a Print function rather than Export.
  13. When I replace a linked document where part of it has been dragged to be visible in a picture frame, all of the positioning I have done is reset. This doesn't happen when I update it. Could we get a setting to maintain X+Y co-ordinates of the placed document when replaced?
  14. Another use case for this - I'm working on several workbooks with the same layout but different content. The content is all formatted identically so that I don't have to mess around with placement when I replace the file. When I copy and paste to a new folder to create a new workbook, the Spread setting is lost for every placed file so everything resets to Page 1 of the linked document. For now I am just embedding things which is fine but start-up times are slow as a result.
  15. I love the float with text feature. However can there please be an option to unpin all selected frames with one click? As soon as you select more than one it's greyed out.
  16. See Garry's excellent solution in the below thread for an example of what I mean by selected spread. When transferring a file to my laptop or elsewhere, the selected spread of a placed file always resets to page 1. This is even when the whole folder structure is maintained - Publisher has no problem automatically locating the replaced file but it resets all the chosen spreads. I would prefer to place rather than embed the file if possible.
  17. I have some placed content (linked) in a picture frame, pinned to the text frame below. When I Alt-drag it to duplicate, it gets much wider and the placement bears no relation to where I actually move the cursor. I'm then unable to even select the weird new frame to resize it, move it or delete it. Luckily if I just copy and paste manually it's OK. I feel like this can't be a feature! 2020-04-06 17-15-38.mkv
  18. Was this ever fixed or is it by design? Having to make all my text frames .1mm taller than the baseline grid is killing me.
  19. Actually this looks pretty good for what I need to do! Especially if the margins are all matched up already then I think this could be just as quick as the alternative. Thanks for your help.
  20. Hi, thanks again for your response. The PDF file given to me contains many single lines of music all exactly the size they need to be on the finished page. I need to split each line from the original PDF and place it among the text in my Publisher file, aligned to the inside margin. In Illustrator I can group and expand each line of music, select it, and get a perfect crop using Asset Export. No white space, no additional pixels, easily placed and aligned in InDesign. In Designer, I can group and convert to curves, but because the export persona is pixel based, the slice rounds up to the nearest pixel, throwing all my alignment off with tiny bits of white space when I place the files in Publisher. I don't want to have to click and drag to crop the placed file each time as I probably have 150+ lines of music to fit. The music is already the perfect width, I just need an exact 1:1 vector crop that I can quickly align in Publisher.
  21. Hi, thanks for your reply. I would love to place the files but I can't get a borderless slice from Designer! I have several individual lines of music output from Dorico which I want to be able to place on the page in Publisher and align as necessary in my worksheet. I trialled the other creative suite which shall remain nameless and this was very easy using Asset Export in the vector program then placing in the publishing program. Perfect slices with zero border that I could align as necessary. However because everything in Designer works on a pixel grid, if I import a file from Dorico (which isn't pixel based), nothing lines up and I can't get a perfect vector slice. Hence why I'm resorting to copying and pasting within Publisher.
  22. See the video here for context. I need to move some musical scores from a PDF document into a worksheet file in Publisher. I've given up trying to do this from Designer as I can't get the slices to fit the bounds of the score exactly - it always adds a pixel or two of white space. That's a topic for another post.. Anyway, I thought I had solved it by doing everything within Publisher with the following steps: Open the PDF Select the content I need Group and convert to curves (this works with no excess borders - great) Copy across to my worksheet However when I copy across, all of the line weights on the music are suddenly much thinner - see the video for what I mean. Everything else remains unchanged. I don't understand how this can be intended behaviour but maybe I'm missing something? Thanks for your help.
