  1. I understand your point of view and I'm not surprised at all. I have a similar dilemma myself. For texture editing, I prefer to recommend software created for this purpose. AP can only supplement such a program, but it will never reach the same level because it is not designed to do so. An example here is Quixel Mixer. But gamedev is not only about textures
  2. This shows there is a problem. I'm curious how and when it will be solved by Serif.
  3. I didn't put my entry in the tutorials because I thought a similar one already existed. I prefer to stay away from the Alpha channel. The Alpha channel behaves very strangely and is the only channel that needs the eraser to edit. While the brush only affects the selected channel, the eraser does not. When the eraser reaches full black, it starts affecting all other color channels and removes information from them. I definitely prefer masks on separate layers. Their editing is much more intuitive and I don't need an eraser. I hold [alt] and click on the mask layer to enter mask edit mode. In the mask mode, I have a preview and can edit it like normal channels. Interestingly, all RGB channels are affected simultaneously, but not channel A. In the mask, this channel is not editable.
  4. If you have touch on the tablet then you can rotate. Just remember to always start by right-clicking the pen [RPB]. This way you mark the pivot point of the view. Without this action, the rotation will be unpredictable or will not work at all. [RPB].[Ctrl]+[Alt]+[2 Fingers (Vertical)] = Rotate 10° Left/Right [RPB].[Alt]+[2 Fingers (Vertical)] = Rotate 1° Left/Right [RPB].[2 Fingers (Vertical)] = Pan (Up/Down) [RPB]/[2 fingers (horizontal movement)] = panorama view (left/right) [RPB].[2finger(remove fingers)] = zoom in view [RPB].[2 Fingers (Zoom)] = Zoom out
  5. I agree 100% with your opinion. Unfortunately, I don't always have the opportunity to play in real life 😟 I can also rotate the tablet and already the rotate function is ready 😁 However, I don't do that because it's easier to rotate a sheet of paper than an entire easel. I somehow manage with what is available in Affinity. I don't even think about returning the software due to the lack of this or that. I'm just expressing my opinion and presenting a need. I think it's worth talking about such things so that the creators of Affinity know the needs of users. If we don't write about it on the forum, how will they know what we need? By the way, the whole Serif team is doing a great job and has my great appreciation.
  6. Let's hope the wow factor won't always be a priority. In my opinion, even the best tools are useless if they cannot be used in an easy and intuitive way. You can compare it to a hammer without a handle. Not a big deal, but there is a difference. I would say the same about some seemingly unimportant features in various apps.
  7. Or maybe such a proposal? [Space]+[Touch Canvas] - (or other key combination) Such a sequence would trigger the appropriate rotate tool. At the point of touch, there would be a point with the horizon line, with respect to which the rotation would take place. Further movement around the point would rotate the view, and the tool would simultaneously display the rotation angle relative to the horizon. With [Ctrl] pressed, the rotation would take place by previously defined units. Of course, these are only initial suggestions and require some thought and checking that they will not interfere with other functions. It can also be one multi-tool that zooms, rotates, pans, etc.
  8. After thinking about the subject, I come to the conclusion that my proposal of zooming and rotating under the same keys can cause problems when accidentally the image starts rotating instead of zooming and vice versa. Here is my second suggestion [Space]+(pen movement) = move the view freely [Space]+[RightPenButton]+(Pen move vertically) = free view zoom [Space]+[leftPenButton]+(horizontal pen movement) = freely rotate the view [Space]+[Ctrl]+[RightPenButton]+(pen move vertically) = zoom in by predefined value in the tool [Space]+[Ctrl]+[leftPenButton]+(horizontal pen movement) = rotate the view by a predefined value in the tool [Space]+[Shift]+(Horizontal/Vertical pen movement) = Horizontal/Vertical view flip.
  9. I will add something to this discussion. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the author of the topic. I too find the Affinity package inconvenient to use in some ways and should learn from the competition. On the one hand, there are people for whom the existing solutions are sufficient and see no reason to introduce changes. On the other hand, there are people like me who would like to work better, faster, more comfortably and are not afraid of change. Personally, I see no reason to discriminate against one or the other group. If there is such a need, then why not implement the appropriate function and give everyone the opportunity to choose. Why should only people with touch tablets be privileged? There is a smooth zooming and panning of the working area. [Space]+[Ctrl]+(draw horizontally) = smooth zoom [RPB]+(move pen) = move canvas Why not do something similar with rotation? My navigation suggestion. [Space]+[Ctrl]+(draw horizontally) = smooth rotation right/left [Space]+[Ctrl]+(draw vertically) = smooth zoom in/out [RPB]+(move pen) = move canvas
  10. Hi filoplume It's not necessarily the app's fault. You may have accidentally run AF v2 as administrator. In this case, drag and drop will not work. You can check it with any application on windows.
  11. It's the same with me. I had to disable hardware acceleration because I couldn't work.
  12. After disabling hardware Acceleration, the problem is less annoying. It only occurs in a fraction of a second when I start drawing. I know this because the line is double at the beginning. However, this is a temporary workaround that does not completely resolve the issue. Maybe it's worth following in the footsteps of other software producers and apologizing to Windows Ink.
  13. Hi As a test, I made a Tif RGBA file in Affinity Photo v2. After reloading, all the RGB information under the transparency was preserved. I've noticed that there are cases where channels don't always display well in the preview. Maybe that's the case with you too. Maybe try this: In Channels, right click on Background Alpha and select a fill. Check that you will then have the RGB channel data. In the same way, you can move the alpha channel to a separate layer, only then you select Create mask layer.
  14. I'm having issues with smooth movement, sudden jumps, or not following the pen tip. In each setting, the program behaves differently. Low precision With dynamic movements of the stylus, the line is often laggy and draws along the shortest path between points. What I drew was supposed to be a circle. High precision After starting drawing, the line briefly returns to the starting point and then goes back to the track. Long delays are still felt. Windows Ink The pen runs extra, it goes smoothly, the smallest delays and no skips. Unfortunately, the pen key does not respond in this setting and I cannot display the menu. I am using Huion Kanvas 16 pro UHD and Windows 11 22H2. I have disabled press and hold in touch pen system settings. I always have brush stabilization turned off in Affinity Photo. I reinstalled the tablet drivers and reconfigured it, but it didn't help. I did a diagnosis and compared with other programs and only the Affinity package has these problems. Previously, there were similar problems in AP v1 sometimes, but they were not as annoying. I had similar problems with Wacom Intuos. I noticed that Pixologic PaintStop picks up the Affinity Photo settings. When I have both of these programs turned on at the same time, the AP behaves as if it had Windows Ink set and it has Hight precision in the settings. This happens even when I close PaintStop. AF returns to its settings only after its restart. Thank you for your help
  15. In win 11 ver. 22H2 the default location of the program files is "C: \ Program Files \ WindowsApps \ SerifEuropeLtd.Affinity..." The given forum location is also correct https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/167828-accessing-affinity-v2-apps-from-other-apps/ Only these files are 0B and they are probably some links to the original files in "Program Files" If for some reason the location mentioned on the forum does not work, I recommend trying the one in "C: \ Program Files \ WindowsApps \" Access to the "WindowsApps" folder is blocked in Windows Explorer, but can be accessed from other programs. Just open a regular notepad and choose File / Open or Save As to view the exe location path in the "WindowsApps" directory. It worked for me, maybe it will also help others. Such problems are not uncommon and they happen in much more expensive applications. Developers are not always able to predict possible hardware and software configurations. The mere transfer of the "Users" directory from the C drive to a larger drive one may already generate problems in various applications.
  16. +1 I am a supporter of this type of solutions. I propose a wheel menu similar to the 3D program - Maya / Blender etc. With a simple pen gesture you can switch between different tools without leaving the workspace. Every unnecessary move and click takes precious time, and as you know, time is at a premium. In my opinion, the radial menu is more user-friendly than the commonly used keyboard shortcuts. I have to remember shortcuts that vary depending on the developer of the application. Additionally, they sometimes require the use of two hands at the same time, which causes extra movement and distracts for a moment from what you were doing. In the Pie menu, I would have everything I need in a given editing mode at hand.
  17. In TGA it works too. I just have to remember to separate the alpha from the color layer before editing the file. I can't just open and edit a file, I have to prepare it before that.
  18. I'm for. Meanwhile, you can try this method, I have been using it since version 1.8 Preparing the TGA file for editing Move the alpha channel to the new mask layer. 1. Open the file for editing and make sure the document background is transparent. 2. Select the background layer in the Layers panel. 3. Create a mask from Background Alpha in the "Channels" pane. Removal of the original alpha and discovery of RGB pixels: 4. Select the Background layer again; 5. Select the fill option for "Background Alpha" in the "Channels" pane. 6. Now you can hide the mask layer and check if information in RGB channels is preserved. Editing the mask. 7. After the mask layer is displayed again, you can start editing. ATTENTION!!!!!!! Keep the mask position on the top layer and under no circumstances merge it with other layers or flatten the file before exporting. In Affinity Photo, it seems that masks remove information about other channels from the layer they are pinned to, so be sure to keep the mask on a separate layer. Export to TGA 8. Make sure the background is transparent in the export options. When re-editing the file, follow the instructions provided. Unfortunately, working in this way is a bit tedious but not impossible. You can speed up the preparcess by using macro. Textures.afmacros
  19. The default shortcuts [alt] + [RMB] + [LMB] may not work on the tablet when the "Use Windows ink for tablet input" option is enabled in the preferences.
