Thanks William - I tried your suggestion, but just as with Notepad the Private Character pastes successfuly into Wordpad, but then when I try to copy and paste it from Wordpad into Publisher I get an empty narrow rectangle!

One of Affinity's less intuitive features I'd say when having a tiny b&w icon under the inkwell is such an obvious way to do things!
 

That's remarkable Paul!  Many thanks for your fast and helpful response.

I only have to copy the attributes of a stroke, fill, object or text in Macromedia Freehand and I can then paste these attributes to other lines, fills, objects and texts elsewhere in the document  to create a perfect match across any number of elements. Bricscad has a similar feature that allows hatch in a closed boundary to be copied and pasted into other boundaries. This is a huge time-saver I would love to see in the Affinity Suite. 
 
 

I had just amended an image of a roof (vector-file originally drawn in Macromedia Freehand.) It was contained within a text frame with text-wrap applied.
