Rather than addressing your explanation, why don't we just go head to head.

Your file (with a curve added) in all black to really get a good look, saved as a png from AffinityD and from Illustrator.
I'll let you guess which is which.
(the difference is actually much more pronounced out of a browser (mine at least)... such as in AD itself and elsewhere like Preview)

The fact that they call this normal is the most distressing thing of all. If it's so normal why are there constantly people trying to come over from Ai saying "HEY what's up with these lines??"
It's like they've resigned themselves to this result. At one point I remember a response from the Devs that included something like.... but we're working on improving this. But I haven't seen that included in a reply for a long time. It would be nice to at least "hear" again.
Or maybe it's just not resolvable with the render engine approach they've chosen?
I'm not saying AI is perfect all the time, but come on right? Night and day.

I really, really don't understand that design decision. Having tools toggle on and off from their hotkey is like designing a steering wheel in a car to toggle between steering left and right, and you have no way to know which one it's going to do without trying it out. This violates some really fundamental and basic principles of user interface design. When I press a hotkey I need to know exactly what it's going to do.
I really love this software overall, but this one flaw is enough to completely spoil it. I can't use this for production unless/until you fix it.

I just bought Affinity Designer and Photo, but there's a "feature" that throws me off all the time: when I for example press 'N' to select the pencil and then press it again, it selects the last used tool. I guess it makes sense to cycle tools if there are multiple tools in the same group, but I often press a shortcut just to make sure I have the right tool selected, so this behaviour is very annoying. I couldn't find the option in the preferences and the built-in Help didn't bring any results.

To go more sharply to the left, perhaps? What you certainly don’t expect is that having previously turned it to the right, turning it to the left a second time makes the car turn right instead of left.

I’m used to the behaviour in the Affinity apps, so it doesn’t bother me personally, but if the tool toggling feature were absent I don’t think many users would miss it!

@Affinity Please give us the option to toggle off the "Feature" when pressing the same Tool shortcut twice it switches back to the previously selected Tool.
Its really annoying and disrupts my Workflow. I would be super happy if you could add that option in the next Update and reading the forums im sure a lot of people would appreciate that option too.

Ps. Im a big Affinity Fan, I have bought both Softwares and both Workbooks and I am going to buy Publisher too when its released. Im even planning on buying an iPad Pro for the iPad Versions.

Great program for price. No major complaints.....except the annoying tool toggle. For example, when I hit the "B" keyboard shortcut for brush.....I want the Paint Brush tool....not the last tool used or any other tool....PERIOD. I come from the production AEC architecture community for 20 years etc. CAD etc where speed is key. I absolutely, do not want to have to "verify" that I have the right tool every time I hit a shortcut key. Sometimes you stop the flow to do something else..forgetting which tool you used last, hit the "B" key, start working and you end up with the "whatever" tool and have to undo something because it was the wrong tool. BTW there is no obvious way to verify the tool you have selected except to read the bottom notification bar or search the tool pallet. This interrupts the "Flow" tremendously. All I want is the option to turn this "Toggle to another tool" off or on in preferences, because  I am sure that many like this option or are used to it.
    Thanks No offense.
