Aegir Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 (edited) Can anyone help me out. We are experiencing some issues when wanting to cut a shape out of an image. We use this simple procedure all the time but for some reason this glitch is occurring. I have asked another affinity user and they are having the same issue. For example we are editing a logo and have used the pen tool to cut out the logo and removed the white box behind it. We then are having problems removing any other shapes from this logo. When trying to subtract the image we want cutout it does subtract it but then shifts the original image aside so therefore what your trying to subtract does not line up. This is really strange any ideas how to fix this issue. Edited August 29, 2019 by Aegir Quote
Staff stokerg Posted August 30, 2019 Staff Posted August 30, 2019 Hi Aegir and welcome to the Forums, Could you attach the .afdesign file and i'll look into this further Quote
Aegir Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 Hi stokerg, thanks for the reply I have attached 2 files. One with the sample logo and curve that's ready to be cutout. The second is the end result of what happens after subtracting. We are finding this really weird as we use this all the time. Sample file 1 with logo and curve ready before subtracting.afdesign Sample file 2 with logo and cutout after subtracting.afdesign Quote
PixelPest Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Is that´s probably what you´re aiming for? Quote
Aegir Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 Hi PixelPest, thanks for the reply and yes that's exactly what we are wanting to do. I have tried and that has worked. Sorry to bother you with this as we have been doing it slightly different and it had stopped working. Thank you so much Quote
Aegir Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 Just one last question there PixelPest, we have cut the white box out from outside the image first and then the flames in the centre to get them transparent. We then end up getting that grey rectangle again that we need to remove. Are we better off adding that grey rectangle in first then subtracting each curve all at once. Quote
PixelPest Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 If you want to get rid of the white background I wonder if PixelPersona + Selection Brush tool are not easier. If you´re on macOS Preview can do it in a snap: Quote

Aegir Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 We still are having trouble as we cannot remove the rectangle now. How we have been doing it in the past is by cutting out the whole image then selecting the curve and image and then dividing to remove the white box. Then we would go ahead and cut out the centre shapes and then subtract. How would you go about removing the outside white box around the logo and the shapes inside. I have attached the logo again with the curves Sample file with logo ready to remove white box and flames inside.afdesign Quote
PixelPest Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 You have a special image there called curve - not sure if that is a PS mask or whatever. What works here is: Delete rectangle select 3 curves and Boolean add then rasterise image (curve layer) drag raster image to Curve to use as mask: Quote
Aegir Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 Thanks we will have a play with that. We would prefer to do it in the designer persona though Quote
Aegir Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 Sorry we are still having trouble doing this, any chance you could send a video like before Quote
