Jagged Lines and Changed Colors In-Project (Affinity Designer)

Recommended Posts

Hello. Can you guys tell me why those vector brush lines are jagged?
No matter what document size, DPI and etc. the problem is still the same.

I've also tried to change GPU, open it on different computers and monitors...

When zooming in vector lines looks better though...

And also while opening on another computer project colors messed up for a while

and then fixed itself by opening a project for like a third time or something like that. Am I missing something?

Hi lukasra,

Welcome to the forums :)

This looks like it may be an anti-aliasing related query, but I'm, not 100% certain. Could you please provide a copy of your Affinity file for me to investigate here?

What colour format is your document set to please? Did this second computer have a custom colour profile set against the monitor/through the OS?

Thanks for that, my apologies for the delayed response.

This can happen when you're using a Vector Brush with a Bitmap texture - which I think applies to most of the curves you're using. Trying switching to a Vector Brush that doesn't have a texture to see if that improves things!

Do you have a custom scaling factor set against your monitor in Windows Display Settings?

Hello lukasra,
Here’s a thought, have you by any chance activated Pixel View or Retina View in the top Toolbar?
These are toggles and will display vector content as if it were a raster image, handy for judging what an image might look like after exporting for example.
To go back to vector view again just click whichever view button is active.

Dan C,
By default, it is 100% and I keep it that way. As it should be??

markw,
Hello! I know about those options and what they do, before posting here I was trying to figure it out by myself searching answers on the internet and etc...
I only ask If I've already tried all those other options already. So thanks for helping but It's not the case... I'm using Designer pretty much every day for a while and yet this is the first time I encounter such a problem... My problem is when the zoom is 100% or lower, lines are jagged, but when I zoom in everything is fine.

Thanks for that, there's no issue here - simply we've had other customers report similar re-draw issues and this was due to a custom scaling option set in Windows.

This is to be expected, to speed up the drawing of a canvas in Affinity whenever you're viewing a document at less than 100% mipmaps are used. This in conjunction with anti-aliasing performed in-app causes your vectors to appear this way. Unfortunately there's no current way to disable either of these in Affinity apps currently, my apologies.
