midician Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 (edited) How can I transfer RAW images edited on my iPad to my Mac? Edited July 20, 2019 by midician Quote
Dan C Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 Hi midician, Welcome to the forums After developing your image in the Develop Persona on your iPad you'll need to save your document as an .afphoto file, either to your local iPad storage or to a cloud service. Once done, transfer this .afphoto file to your desktop using your preferred method, then open the file in Affinity Photo on your Mac. Find out more in the following video! Quote
midician Posted July 20, 2019 Author Posted July 20, 2019 Thanks for the reply. In my experience public wireless networks of hotels or pubs are quite often too slow to upload a considerable amount of RAW-files. That's why I choose to save the RAW files locally on my iPad. It's a pity the video doesn't show how to do this without using the cloud. Does this work via iTunes sharing when connecting the iPad to the Mac? Quote
Dan C Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 No problem at all, although I haven't personally tried this I do believe it will work, however you'll likely need to backup your iPad each time, as Affinity Photo doesn't support the 'File Sharing' feature of iTunes AFAIK. This will likely be made 100x easier with the release of iPadOS this Fall, with it's improved Files app and ability to connect a USB drive etc! Quote

It does work, as long as the connection is secure. Obviously, the connection is secure if the Mac & iPad are connected via a USB cable, but it also will work over a local network if WiFi & Bluettoth are enabled on both devices & using the same local network. As I understand it, the Bluetooth connection is used only to establish that the iPad & Mac are in close proximity & thus it is OK to share files between them, while the actual transfer is via WiFi, which is typically much faster than transferring over BlueTooth.
