xyzzy Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Hi, I am a developer. I am looking at a way to extract the thumbnails, that are saved with the documents, if I have enabled that option in the prefs. I can see them in the macOS Finder and QuickView. Is there a way to extract them from self written code? I would be interested in a solution that works on Linux, macOS and Windows. Furthermore, I tried using ExifTool to extract metadata from the files. But ExifTool doesn't find anything it knows. Is there any metadata stored in the files, e.g. with XMP? If yes, how can I extract it from my code? I hope this is the right forum for my question. If not, please let me know where I can ask my question. Quote
walt.farrell Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, xyzzy. The format of the Affinity files is not documented, and is proprietary to Serif. For thumbnails: On Windows, you would use the official APIs provided by Windows (and supported by Affinity) to extract the thumbnails. I presume there are similar official Mac APIs to get that data from files, which would be supported by Affinity there, too. There would be no support on Linux, other than trying to read through the file and trying to figure it out. There is no support as far as I know for extracting the EXIF data that would be contained within the file. I strongly recommend using the officially supported APIs for functions that have them Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU.
