Modifier key order

Suggestion: please make it so modifier keys can be pressed at any time to take effect. For example, holding down the option key while clicking and dragging on an object will drag a copy of that object. The problem is that if you click first and then press option, the duplication doesn't happen. It only works if you hold Option down first. This is especially frustrating for those coming from Adobe.

It shouldn't matter what order you press Option and Click, but it does in Publisher. There are other instances like this where the order you've pressed the key makes a difference and it really shouldn't... command-space to zoom is another (it only works if you press space first).
