Holly
Hi, I purchased Affinity Publisher as a replacement for Illustrator. I use design elements from Adobe Stock. All I needed Illustrator for was to enlarge an .ai file that isn't available as a PNG or JPG and export it as a PNG or JPG so that I can work with it in PhotoShop Elements. I didn't realize there was additional software: Affinity Design and Affinity Photo. Do I need to purchase either one to work with Affinity Publisher so that I can do this very simple task? Also, how do I do this very simple task (either just in Affinity Publisher or using Publisher with one of the other Affinity softwares)? I've tried to do it in Publisher but when I select the entire graphic and drag a corner out I lose part of the image. I'm thoroughly confused. Fixx
If you can place a file to Publisher you can certainly scale it to desired size in layout.
Holly
This is what happens when I select the .ai graphic and drag to enlarge it. I'm missing a step or two.
Old Bruce
Is the original size of the image also the size of the Artboard? Do you have a clipping mask on the graphic? I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Holly
Sorry, that's all Greek to me. How can something this simple involve such big words, lol. Do I need to increase the size of the Artboard? I don't see Artboard in the down menus. And I don't know what a clipping mask is.
Old Bruce
Arghh! I misread again. You have Publisher (not Designer (read carefully Bruce)) so it isn't Artboard but Spread or Page. Is the Page the height of the original .AI file? Do you have Clip to Canvas on? The check mark means it is on, this means anything hanging off of the page is invisible. Holly
Thanks for the screenshot. I was able to select Clip to Canvas (although I have no idea what that means) so that much is done. I don't know if the Page is the height of the .ai file. I have attached a screenshot of the dimensions I see in the Transform area. Assuming that those are the dimensions in pts. I noticed though that as soon as I clipped to canvas that the dimensions turned to 0. But how do I check if the page is the same size as the file? Sorry to be so dense. Old Bruce
File > Spread Setup... and you should see a window like this: You can then change the size if you want to. To change from points to inches or cm you can go to File > Document Setup... and you can change that in the top dropdown menu Document Units:. The reason the Transform panel went to 0 0 is probably because you had nothing chosen/selected. Try it by clicking on the image and then clicking on the blank area away from the image. Holly
Thank you so much! That's exactly what I need to do. One final question - it doesn't pixelate, does it? Does it enlarge the same way it would enlarge in Illustrator, with no pixelation?
