Minus44 Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 The Summer Solstice yesterday gave everyone in the northern hemisphere our maximum amount of sunlight for 2019. The day after the 1st day of Summer contains exactly 1 second less daylight (here in my region of NY along with anyone else on the globe at this latitude). Each day for the next six months will progressively have even less daylight. LESSON: Enjoy — and don't waste — your daylight. Quote

Nice graphic, although I think “Day length” would be better than “Time elapsed”. For what little it’s worth, timeanddate.com tells me that June 22 in Brooklyn and Queens has a whole two seconds less daylight than June 21 had. Minus44 Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 Thanks, @Alfred! It's true... Brooklyn and Queens are even darker than my region. Interestingly, I checked timeanddate, as well as the US Naval Observatory tools, along with THREE apps on my iPad (amateur astronomer here). It's hugely annoying to someone like me when data that you think should be absolutes are calculated differently by different resources. That said, the overall concept remains true — that the Summer Solstice gives us the maximum amount of daylight during the year, and even one day earlier or later will reflect a change in the daylight duration. This was a fun project, not only for the armchair astronomy info, but also because it's the first time I've actually DRAWN an entire project in Designer. I've done plenty of other font and shape-based projects, but never a project where I need to manipulate nodes, utilize gradients, etc. Although I'll never be a real master at it, this was FUN!!! Minus44 Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 FWIW, I'm not a huge fan of "Time elapsed" either. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to come up with what to call that figure. I got exhausted and let it be. LOL! Let me know if you come up with any other alternates. I'll probably utilize this graphic annually for some astronomy clubs and friends. Quote

Minus44 Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 Thanks! It might work. I'm chewing on it. Alfred 1 Quote
Minus44 Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 FWIW one trusted app I have has a term similar to the one you mentioned, calling it "Daylight Duration." Might switch to that. Thanks again! Quote
