totoff Posted March 14, 2019 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Dear all, I need to clone from a static source point with the clone tool in photo. In other words I want the source point to remain fixed where it was originally set instead of following the clone tools movement with a fixed distance while hovering over the target area. From what I understood from the docs, this behavior can be achieved by unchecking the “aligned” checkbox but this doesn’t work for me (actually checking or unchecking the box doesn’t seem to change the tools behavior at all. walt.farrell Posted March 14, 2019 Share Posted March 14, 2019 I don't think there is any way to have a completely fixed clone source point as you seem to want. If you had one, that would mean that you would repeatedly copy the single pixel, which is not usually what one would want when cloning, in my experience. "Aligned" determines the action that occurs when you use the clone tool multiple times. Suppose you select your source point, and you paint an area with the Clone Tool. Then you release the mouse button and clone another area. With Aligned off when you release the mouse button the source selection reverts to the original point. With Aligned on the clone source keeps tracking your new location, relative to the source, insted of reverting. I would need to understand more about what you want to fix, but perhaps a different tool would be better than the Clone Tool? For example, perhaps the Inpainting Tool would be better for the problem you have? Or perhaps the Patch Tool or the Healing Tool? Unfortunately I can’t post the picture in question to explain the task as I’m away from my desktop machine. In short, I have a portrait with an “atmospheric” background. I changed the aspect ratio of the canvas from 4:3 to 16:9. Now I need to fill this empty area I created with this background. Fill with inpaint failed as it always clones the person’s face as well.
