Richard Stine Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Why doesn't Affintity photo create a thumbnail for my image files? Pretty tired of trying to figure out what file I'm looking at by name only. I do see that when I'm in list mode there's a tiny thumbnail there but it's VERY tiny. Much appreciated if someone can help me find a way to get a proper thumbnail for my files. Quote
Staff Lee D Posted December 2, 2018 Staff Posted December 2, 2018 Open Preferences > General, make sure the option to save a thumbnail with the file is enabled. Is this happening with a particular type of file? Quote
R C-R Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 It would help if you told us if you are running the Windows or Mac version of Affinity Photo, but from your mention of "list mode" I will assume for now that you are using the Mac version & browsing through your files in Finder. If so, to begin with do as @Lee D suggested. But also be aware that Finder has several per folder view options, two of which will determine if you will see previews & what size they will be in Finder's list view. These options can be accessed from Finder's View menu, or with the keyboard shortcut ⌘J. As shown in the example below, there are two available icon sizes to choose from (both of which are fairly small) but unless that option near the bottom to show the previews is ticked, all you will see is the generic icon for that file type. The "Use as Defaults" button will, as the name suggests, set the default for new Finder windows. But this is still a per folder setting, meaning if a folder has been set not to show previews or to use small icons, that setting will 'stick' for that folder every time you open it. If you want larger previews, then you can use one of Finder's other views. The Icon view is particularly good for this because it has a slider at the bottom of the window that changes the size of the icons. You still have to set the appropriate view options for that folder like to show the icon preview.
