B&W with certain areas in colour

Yes it is possible. Apply a B&W adjustment layer. This is also a mask layer so you can paint on the layer where you would like the colour to come through.

another way for something a little different
desaturate to image using individual colour channel sliders 
move the colour channels sliders to bring back the colours you want to keep at saturations to suit 
There can be lots of variations available and experimenting is the best way to find that "something different"
let us know how you went ---   post the photo (??)
