Envy
Is there a way to have data variables? I have to make really long safety manuals and would like to be able to enter a job name and have it change automatically through the document. I know I can find and replace but I would like to have 10-15 variables I can change quickly.
Dave Harris
Not really. There may be one or two document fields that you can repurpose, but it's not something we've addressed directly.

Do you want them to change automatically, or do you want to be able to change them quickly (which implies, to me, manually rather than automatically). Perhaps some more details on how you'd want it to work would help. In the meantime, one document field that might prove useful is the Section Name. But for the ability to change something and have it change all through the document, you might try the Symbols feature. For example, you could create a Text Frame containing "Widget" and turn it into a Symbol, then you could drag that symbol onto other pages in your document. If you later need all of them to say "Thumbnail" you can just edit one of them and they'll all change.
