File size Designer vs. Illustrator

Recommended Posts

Because I' m switching from Illustrator to Designer: If an Illustrator file with 377 kb is opened in Designer and saved as Designer file the identical file has 1.5 MB
Why is the Designer file up to four times bigger as the Illustrator file? Has anyone had similar experiences?

Hi tersmuse,

Are you saving the AI file as a .afdesign file? If you are then see this post from Mattp one of our Dev team, he explains about bit about the .afdesign format and why they can be large and in the same thread Ben (another one of Dev team) explains a bit more.

I have a test this morning:  I did a quick poster in Illustrator (size 1.78Gb).  Import to and save it in Affinity Design (size 1.07Gb ... Good saving in file size).  In the screenshots attached, I have not give the same name to the files and the preview are not accurate in the .ai file for reason I don't know of.   Just a humble sharing of my little experience.
